CA BRN Grad to NCLEX timeline/prep

Published

Hello all,

i know now many of us have just graduating and are applying for jobs and anxiously awaiting the BRN to send us our ATT so we can take the mystical NCLEX. I thought it would be nice to have a post our timelines, if we have accepted our first job yet and where you will be working as a new grad, how you are studying for the NCLEX, when you submitted your application to the BRN, when your school sent in your transcripts, when you received your ATT, and when you finally took the NCLEX how many questions you had and any advice you'd give to those who haven't taken it yet:)

I'll start off the conversation:

BRN application sent in: December 5th

RN grad date: 12/16/16

First RN job:Surgical ICU (very anxious)

transcripts roster sent in: 1/11/16

ATT: not received yet (BRN updates processing dates every Monday but the dates haven't changed in a few weeks probably due to the holidays)

Studying for NCLEX: 4 day in class Kaplan review (wasn't a huge fan, but instructor was nice and it did help a little), Uworld (awesome app, great rationales that help you review content as you test), NCLEX mastery (rationales are decent), misc NCLEX books to answer as many questions as I can (Saunders, Kaplan content review, ATI content review) Saunders is awesome because it has online question banks with a few thousand questions.

I got my ATT today and scheduled my NCLEX for feb 3rd

YAY! Congrats! Was Feb. 3rd the first available date, or just what was most convenient for you? I'm hoping to test as soon as I get my ATT, like, the next day if available, lol.

Got my ATT last night at 10pm! Testing 2/9!

There were two dates earlier but im using the uworld app and I want to try to get through all of the questions before I test and the other dates through February only had 0800 or 1400 test times and I have to commute so I really wanted a 1200 test time so I would be awake get enough sleep but not be in afternoon nap mode :). I've read on previous discussions that uworld helped a lot of people pass and that the nclex was easier than the questions you get on uworld. Many of my classmates think I'm crazy for scheduling such an early date but I just want to get it over with and behind me!

Great news... my dates are similar to yours - does the ATT come by email or mail? Did you notice a change in your breeze account at all?

The ATT comes directly from Pearson Vue by email, so be sure that you are registered and have paid them or you won't get your ATT until you do. My "submission" date on Breeze changed 2 days prior to my ATT. I applied 11/26 and on 1/20, the submission date changed to 1/20 and then 2 business days later, I got my ATT!

Do you know what determines how fast your application is processed? Is it unique for everyone, or by school? because no one from my graduating cohort has received our ATT. I applied 11/17 and paid pearson 1/3/17, and breeze still says my application is "open"

It seems like people are waiting 1-2 weeks after transcripts are submitted. So, it seems to depend more on transcripts than anything else (assuming your application was submitted and complete). Do you know when your school submitted everyone's transcripts?

Edited to add: The majority of my cohort received our ATTs all within a few days of each other, regardless of our application dates. The ones who are more delayed seem to be the people with convictions and such, which they were told would take longer.

Just got word that our transcripts were sent in on 1/23 (monday). almost a whole month after we graduated. Hopefully this means the ATT is on the way!

You'll probably have it within 2 weeks! Watch Breeze and when your submission date changes, then you'll get your ATT 2 days later! Good luck!

Good to know, thank you! Just curious, was there a good amount of test dates available? Theres a testing center like 2 miles from my house. Would love to take it there, the next locations are 16-30 miles away

Do you know how your school sent your transcripts? My school said they were sending electronically but apparently what they really did was scanned and emailed them to the board. Just wondering how your school did it because our timeline for when our schools sent transcripts is similar, ours were sent in 1/12 and my breeze account hasn't change, haven't gotten my interim permit. I have a couple of job offers and I'm extremely anxious to start and worried since this is all taking so long... this whole process has been so frustrating!

They sent them electronically, not through email.
