I was eligible to sit for the nclex for California.
Wow.. so I took my exam this September, went the distance all 265 questions. Unfortunately I didn't pass. Got my results and "near passing standard" all across the board so the news of failure basically tore me apart.
Now what makes it worse is after submitting the reapplication form and waiting for four weeks for a reply from the board, I get a letter today stating
:::: The Board has determined that the program you completed in the Philippines is not equivalent to the minimum requirements for licensure set forth in California Code Section 1426(d).
You may be able to view Section 1426 (d) and all other codes of the California Code of Regulations by going to our website at: www.rn.ca.gov. Once in the website there will be 'Tabs' at the top of the screen. Go to Regulations then to Nursing Practice Act and finally to California Code of Regulations.
California Code of Regulations Section 1426(d) states that theory and clinical practice shall be concurrent. The documents received state that some of the training was completed several semesters after the theory classes. ::::::
I email the evaluator in charge of my application and she explains ::::
You have options and that is to apply to the LVN Board or in another RN Board in a different state or go for your master's degree in nursing but in California you are not qualified as a RN without the Master's degree.
According to the RLE and the school's curriculum you should have completed the scrubs in NCM 101 and 102 but they were completed in NCM 104, 105 and 103. I am enclosing a copy of the letter that was sent to you yesterday.
I'm angry and sad at the same time. How is it possible that I was eligible to take the nclex the first time I applied and not eligible to retake now? I went from meeting the requirements of an RN to now meeting the requirements of an LVN. How is this possible?
They are saying I'm ineligible based on the dates of completion of my cases. The school requires 5 major, 5 minor, 5 assisted delivery, 5 actual delivery, and 5 cord dressing clinical cases which I completed or else I wouldn't have been able to graduate. All of a sudden Ca board is being technical about the completion dates of these cases. The school is well aware of the fact that completion of these cases is impossible to be concurrent with the theoretical classes. It is not always guaranteed that students will complete the needed cases in concurrent with the theoretical because there are times when there aren't any patients in the hospitals that we are rotated in. It is for this reason that the school allows completion of the needed cases through out the following semesters. We took the theoretical classes before we were allowed to go on our clinicals but the lack of patients made it difficult to complete those 5 cases during that semester. That's why some of my cases were completed one or two semesters after the theory classes.
Am I understanding this correctly? I thought all that matters was that my cases were complete regardless if it was completed in concurrent/along with theoretical or after theoretical. I learned what I was suppose to learn it just so happen that exposure to the actual thing came a semester later.
So now they are saying I can't sit for the nclex in California and I need to complete a masters degree to be qualified as an Rn in California. Is this possible? I went to school graduated with a BSN and in the end I'm told that I only qualify to be a LVN after submitting a reapplication for nclex. .
Clarification would be nice and I would appreciate any advice. This just makes me question if nursing is even the right fit for me cause it's been obstacles after obstacles.
Hey guys! I'm also planning to apply in NM? CES is required there right? How much was the CES?and how long before the CGFNS forwarded the result to the NMBRN? And if I passed the NCLEX in NM will I be able to endorse the license to florida? I have my SSN and a lawful permanent resident. Thanks for the response guys!
NM doesnt require ces only from cgfns, it can be from other evaluators that are faster for additional payment, cgfns doesnt have rush service.Hey guys! I'm also planning to apply in NM? i was wondering, what if one wants to endorse rn license to california.... but knowing that 6 months or so later it would get denied or asked to go to school to repeat several nursing classes.... the person instead of applying for endorsement goes straight to an accelerated second degree adn (or bsn) program that takes 1 year to do and completes the program and received a us adn (or bsn) ... isn't this ok for ca brn? and transcripts from the foreign school is no longer needed for nursing evaluation? also, when applying for the accelerated adn (or bsn) program in the us, does one have to let the school know that the applicant already holds an r.n. license?
accelerated 1yr programs are at the bsn or msn level, designed for those who already have a bachelor's degree in another major. this would be an expensive option and acceptable to california board as completed us education program. transcript review is required along with knowledge of licenses held outside the us to aide in application for initial us license since nursing programs required to send ther records to bon.

board of registered nursing - steps to become a ca rn
lvn 30 unit option - designed as a career ladder for california licensed vocational nurses wishing to become registered nurses. takes approximately 18-24 months. no degree is granted upon completion. most other states do not recognize california's lvn 30 unit option and will not issue rn licenses to these lvns. some lvns prefer to complete an adn program in order to obtain a degree and to have the flexibility to get an rn license in other states. most adn programs will give lvns credit for some of the coursework they completed to become an lvn.
this route to rn licensure not recommended -better to go accelerated route since i'm unaware of any state accepting rn's licensed this way.
hello guys.. just got a letter from BVNPT about my application to take LVN exam.. been 3 mos of waiting. and guess what?? they are asking me my GED or high school diploma and a form to be fill up its a DECLARATION OF NURSING EDUCATION AND/OR LICENSURE... if anyone receive the same letter pls help me to fill this up.. there are questions here about completion of clinical duty hours.. geezzz all copies are in the BRN and i ask them to send a copy to BVNPT and now they are asking me to fill this up??? pls anyone?????
/just in case anyone is wondering, my friend is from the same school, same batch, heck we even we're in the section for a year and i was sitting next to her in the hospital when we had our clinicalsand i'm pretty sure she didn't have all her cases completed concurrently with her theoretical classes, because i can recall her asking if anyone had an extra OR case when everyone was scrambling around for completion because graduation time was getting nearer
Hi... Can you keep up posted about your application for NCLEX-RN after submitting your letter of explanation to CABON. Thanks
NM gives 4 choices where u want to evalute ur transcript. ERES has a rush service for additional $85 it becomes only 5 days, then they will send to NM board. NM keeps updating you when they receive ur application and then transcript. For one person i know, after the board received the transcript it was only two weeks till he got ATT. Then after passing the exam, the same day he got the result, while another person waited 2 weeks for result. If u plan to endorse to other states, many will require cgfns ces. Might as well do that so you dont have to do it twice and spend money twice. Heard cgfns ces they take 4 months to evaluate.@bsnwnab: what can you recommend?how much would be the price and how long will it be compared to the CGFNS?

Thanks for the information! Yes, that's why I was asking about the cost and space. It seems like most schools in CA are going to be very expensive and we as foreign students can not apply for any financial aid. The price tag of $10,000 is way too much and anything over that is not going to work for me.
I know there are several others trying to fit into the limited open spots left-over for foreign students. My friend said that there are students from India and Russia also trying and that numbers into a few hundred in CA.
It's either being an LVN in CA or looking out of state for better chances at being an RN that don't need a SSN, but that's shrinking also. Arghhh....
Good luck to you and your wife!
