where to apply,, who's hiring?
hi got my license last week and now feeling so frustrated with my job hunting. Searching online and taking care of my baby is a challenge so I try to make the most out of my time whenever he is sleeping. So far most of the hospitals/ltc/snf/homecare/ recruitment agencies arent hiring new grads. Just wondering if you guys have any idea of which facility I can apply to that has a great probability of hiring new grads like me. Thank you so much!

INELIGIBLE FOR CA BON DUE TO CONCURRENTLY DONE CASES... --US citizen (was born in CA)
Those clinicals done in some areas at the end of our training is called a completion that completion our only goal is to complete our cases which is not a part of the typical clinical duty other student nurses have. with our regular clinicals which is concurrent with our theory we still perform our duties as a nurse we are just arent able to complete our cases which are the minor surgery/major surgery/actual delivery of a newborn/assisting in the delivery of a newborn/cordcare on that time frame but we were there performing our duties such as the typical vitalsigns, internal exam, giving medications and so on and so forth. There are also other case scenarios but that would be the most basic way to explain that. Anyways the concurrency issue makes our clinical seem like we went to the hospital to hang out and do nothing because they are basing it from something that they dont even require and understand. This is just an explanation of how the cases works, I dont mean to offend anyone, I am just trying to have a point a cross.

You clearly do not understand the way our cases works. I dont want to offend you but you shouldnt drop your opinion without understanding the whole concept. This is actually the main reason why CA_BON thinks our clinical and theory werent done concurrently. In regards to the passing rate it is a different topic.

CA BRN 2011 Report: Must read!!
Regarding with the NCLEX pass rates I guess thats true but in my school we had this so called E-learning. It covered a lot of NCLEX topics and videos of different procedures etc that was based in a US hospital setting. Most of us thought it was useless but looking back it actually helped us become familiarized with NCLEX. Also since the local board exam in the Philippines is constructed in a more traditional way. It is logical to train and prepare us to answer those type of questions. Hence, making Filipino RN grads foreign to the NCLEX approach.

concurrency, concurrency, frustration.. please no arguments
The 3 cases is finally implemented, supposedly it would start with my batch (2011) but didnt push through. Nice that it has been implemented so nursing students wouldn't need to pay extra fees for having a completion. Bad news for those trying to apply for NCLEX in CA for it creates confusion but hey hopefully it will shed some light to CA BON.

concurrency, concurrency, frustration.. please no arguments
I dont understand why the CA-BON is basing their concurrency judgements on our clinical cases. They think our theory and practicals weren't taken at the same time because of the dates shown on our clinical cases but is that really the case?? When I was still in school I had my theory and practical at the same time. I would get a few cases on that time span of my clinical exposure sometimes none but it doesn't mean that I wasn't there doing my job as a student nurse. I was there providing health education, health assessments, checking of vital signs and so on and so forth. The reason why its unfair to us is that our cases and the time of our clinical exposure is not entirely related. In the philippines the board of nursing REQUIRES a student TO COMPLETE THEIR CLINICAL CASES before taking the local board exam. To those who don't know what our clinical cases are its consist of 5 major surgery, 5 minor surgery, 5 actual delivery (delivery of a baby), 5 cord care, 5 assist (assisting in the delivery of the baby). Like what I said a while ago sometimes we wont have any cases on that day meaning I wasn't able to deliver a baby or provide cord care or assist in delivering a baby or perform as a scrub nurse or perform as a circulating nurse in the operating room or emergency room BUT I was there performing the normal duties of a student nurse e.g Internal Exam, wound care, providing medications etc. or let say I was just performing the normal duties of a student nurse here in the US. When your lucky sometimes you can complete them all at one rotation. DO YOU SEE MY POINT? So lets say I was able to finish my minor cases on one rotation does it mean that I don't have to go to my next MS rotation OF COURSE NOT! I can perform another 5 on a different hospital and use that on my form if I wanted to. I don't want to further explain this but I just wanted to get my point across. Actually I was quiet hesitant about sharing this but I just cant tolerate how people would say that our education do not meet the minimum requirement of the Board of Nursing when in fact their basis of the concurrency issue is entirely wrong. The truth is they don't fully understand the purpose/meaning of the clinical cases. However at this time it wouldn't matter anymore esp with this bad economy and overflow of nurses why bother clarify things like this. I don't want any arguments about this, just wanted to get my point across. There are other reasons why the date on our clinical cases isn't the same with the dates on our theory, its case to case basis. I chose not to use the word concurrent for people might use it against me. Anyways I just didnt want to further explain the other reasons for that, I hope someone does but not me. Have a good day everyone and hope this helps clarify some issues.
