Bush Administration Proposes Cut in Veteran Benefits

Nurses Activism

It seems that our President has given his blessing, no he specifically gave his approval, to cut benefits to veterans, increase the out of pocket cost some veterans pay for their meds, cut benefits/services, especially out-patient services at several facilities nationwide, and charge this new generation of veterans about $250.00 per stay in facilitles. This was a blurp I heard on CNN earlier this AM.

I did not get all of the blurp but when I heard this my blood pressure started going up. How dare he place the lives of our young people in harms way with his oil war, show disrespect to the veterans who have served in past times, and say "here's your bill" to the newer veterans. I may not have every fact straight but I have enough to have to pray extra hard this AM for this man. When, O Lord, are we going to see an end to this pretender?

Something I agree with from the Bush administration for once. I'm tired of veterans over dramatizing their experiences and making the rest of us feel guilty.

This has to be one of the rudest things i've read on this board.

Me too. It kind of puzzles me over why certain posts are removed, and yet something like this, that offers nothing in the way of thought provoking content, is allowed to stay????

Let us be fair. The mods cannot be everywhere at once. They depend on us to report rude/foul or trolling posts. I wanted to give the author of this post a chance to defend his/her strong stance here, so I did not wish to report it.

But understand, you can report any post/poster to the mods and I guarantee (from personal experience) they will respond rapidly and usually very appropriately. I still await the answers to my questions from this individual who says vets are overdramatizing things. I just want to hear his/her viewpoint in detail here.

I saw one the other day that said... Bush never in doubt, always wrong haha

This reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw the other day. I said: Frodo lied, Bush has the ring.

WOW! I think that is the tackiest thing I have ever heard. You should be ashamed of yourself.

It's good to know that when my Dh was over in Iraq (the first time around) or in Kosovo sleeping in a tent on a runway in the cold that people like you were back at home whining about them over dramatizing things.

Well, surprise, surprise. And to think this guy was re-elected last year. :angryfire

I remember when I first heard the results of last year's election. I couldn't quite recover from the shock. I thought, "surely he won't be re-elected with his approval rating." Boy was I wrong.

Don't even get me started.

Why don't you join the military, go to war, see and experience all the horrible things that go with it, and then come back and say this? Until you have been put in a position where you are forced to kill another human being (or be killed), seen your friends killed, and feared for your life every waking moment, I think you ought to reserve your opinions about these veterans. Many of these people return from war so traumatized that they can never fuction normally.

And how about those young men who returned from Vietnam, missing limbs, only to be spit on and called a "baby killer?" Were they over dramatizing their experience?

How dare you!

I feel your pain! I would have voted for a potted plant before I would have voted for Bush!! In fact...if you go to google.com...and type in the word failure....the first website that comes up might make your day!:):lol2:

I don't believe I've "over dramatized" my experiences. Been pretty matter of fact about it. As to you "feeling guilty," well I can't make you feel that way. Perhaps you have some reason to feel guilty? Perhaps its that you feel a need to slight those who had the courage to do things you wouldn't/couldn't do?

I am a veteran and am currently getting my paper work in order for the VA. The VA prioritizes medical care in what I believe is a very fair system. Starting with 100% disabled veterans and then moving through combat veterans and then low income veterans and finally the last group is any veteran honorably discharged. I too have heard the horror stories of how we were treated at VA, but when I went down to the VA hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, I was treated extremely professionally and promptly provided with all the facts and paper work I needed. After being explained the prioritization of care, I believe it is extremely fair, and my income this past year put me out of range for ANY services. I would gladly go back and serve my country in Iraq or wherever needed, and I PROUDLY AND WHOLE-HEARTEDLY SUPPORT PRESIDENT BUSH!

I am glad your experiences w/the VA are good.

trust that those are not EVERYONE's experiences, however, and maybe respect their fight for what is fair for them, too.
