Okay, so there are tons of ppl that TALK about burning their uniforms.. well I DID!! it felt so good to see them be doused (SP?) in lighter fluid...heck, i didnt want to stop soaking them!! and then go up in slow flames!!!
BUT, it must be a nursing thing...as soon as they were lighting up...i felt a little bit of a pull that maybe,,,just maybe there would be a reason i would need them b4 graduation... which btw is in 4 days...lol..dont ask me why i would ever need them, but i think they whole military and nursing thing "be prepared" in me kinda snuck out a bit.
had to share!! lol

I absolutely sympathize with those who wish to burn there uniforms - I thought of doing it from the beginning of the last semester - and went through the motions in my head numerous times. BUT, I ended up donating them instead; saw it as the more "mature" option seeing as how I go to a CC in a rather low income city, and it's expensive enough to go to NS w/o having to shell out another hundred bucks for a uniform that makes you look like a Smurf!
If they don't change to actual scrub tops next year I'll pass mine on, however they are soooo not functional, button up with huge buttons and embroidered flowers all around the neckline, have to wear a tank top under it becuase when you bend down the pt can see clear to pant's waistline ugh so I'm hoping for the sake of the newbies that new director goes in a more modern approach, our OB/Peds tops were awesome, like a reg scrub top with jersey knit sleeves, if it wasn't orange I'd pull the embroidered SFCC out and wear it for work lol
I got my uniform from the donated uniform closet at school. Even if I wanted to, which I do, I can't burn them. But then when I think about it....if the person whose uniform I wore while being in nursing school burned their's....then what would I have worn? lol
The countdown to graduation is so on!!
My plan is to take my whites and dye 'em some color I can tolerate and wear 'em to work. Gives me a reason to pop for some decent white scrubs instead of just the cheapest thing I can find.
I'm dying mine also and now after reading this I wish I was as smart as you and didn't buy the cheapest things I could get my hands on. :)
Well I did an emotional compromise, I had three white uniform tops, one of them was bought at the beginning of senior year and not quite as dingy as the other two, so I donated the nice one and I'm burning the other two at my graduation party next weekend! I already had my graduation and pinning but I'm waiting for one special friend to be here to join me in the burning... she's currently a nursing student who just finished her first semester, she'll understand!!LOL!!
I'm only halfway through my program and I ditched my scrubs.
I paid good money for them, and yet they still are all pilled up. Not to mention all the coffee stains down the front and mystery stains all over the rest of the outfit.
I came home on my last clinical day, pulled into the garage, closed the garage door, stripped down, and threw those nasty things into the trash bin. What a great feeling!
I will start next year fresh, with fresh new scrubs.
Ours were collected to donate to the student nursing association to resell as a fundraiser for the incoming class. I'm hoping they'll charge a very small fee for the used scrubs, as the purpose of the donation was to help keep costs down for incoming freshman. Heaven knows 1st semester was expensive enough!!
I don't think I'd get any real satisfaction from burning them anyway. I got better satisfaction the day another instructor asked who my clinical instructor "is" form something she was filling out prior to pinning and I replied that it WAS Ms. So&So. HA!!!
Congrats all!! Thank heavens that's behind us!!

I wish I could donate mine, but my school is changing the uniform and vendor for the next class. Seems like a waste to toss them, but I see no reason to hold onto a polo shirt for posterity. Might wear the pants again, though.
