Bunker Hill Community College 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Just wondering if there was anyone out there that is applying to the Bunker Hill Community College Nursing Program this year. I'm hopefully applying in the next application cycle after this semester of Micro, Drug Calc, and a Philosophy class. I'm looking into the night/weekend courses. Current GPA of 3.2.

anyout there in Bunker Hill's evening rn program. If so, do you like it. How much time do you put into studying a week. Can you work and go to the program or would it be too difficult. I appreciate your comments.

I took cpt at bunker hill. It is very easy - basic stuff you learn in high school. Nothing like TEAS. Suzie

Hi,

Do you like the evening programming? How many hours per day do you need to study? Did you work while in school.?

Hi suzie2729 - I'm not in the program (hoping to get in for January) but I've read up on so many posts here that I can tell you how I think people would respond to your question.

It seems like most people enjoy the program but at times it can be very stressful and unorganized. Some people continue to work full time throughout the program but it can affect their studies greatly. It seems like most would suggest to cut your hours down to 20 per week at work...and if not for the whole program at least for the second semester (as it is by far the most difficult). It also seems like most people set aside 2-3 hours a day to study, unless they are tied up all day with clinical etc.

I hope this helps some! Search the site for Bunker Hill and a read through the posts that come up. More than likely you'll see some current/former students' answers to these questions :)

Hi jfuturern_14! If you don't mind me asking, what was your prerequisite score for Algebra? I have all A's for science, prereqs, and coreqs so far but I have a C in Algebra so I'm a little worried about getting accepted with that. I'm wondering if anyone gets accepted with one C ?

I think the PP above pretty much nailed it. I did days.

I would say working 20-25 hours is reasonable but it's imperative that you have a backup plan in place. I saw many people fail/drop out because they couldn't cut down on work hours/put their kids in daycare to study and any combination thereof. By having backup plans in place, such as loan money in your bank account if you need to stop working, a pre-arranged change in work schedule with your boss, or a daycare provider that you can drop your kids with when you need to study, you can roll with the punches better in the program.

If you have kids, I highly recommend spending a few hours at the library after school every day to read, supplement your PowerPoint notes with the book and study so that way you can give your kids undivided attention. Fellow students felt that this helped with guilt, but also helped them to prioritize their coursework.

Many people had to decide between work and school, so really, you need to decide if you really really want to be a nurse, and if so, make sacrifices to make it work.

There will be pretty much no flexibility with clinical rotations so plan for that, too.

Second semester makes the first semester look like kindergarten so if you struggle in first semester, be prepared to seek LOTS of help if you want to pass second. The sheet volume of work alone is mind-boggling.

Overall I liked the program, people seemed to like day/nights with the attitude that night students were spoon-fed what material exactly would be on the tests a bit more. Good and bad faculty like anywhere else.

C plus in algebra. Do well in your sciences!

I'm taking algebra over the summer I can't wait to have everything done and submitted!

I got an A but I would not worry about my score in math. I think they look at you sciences scores, specially A&P's

I got in with all A's on pre-reqs. I would aim for that and especially so well in the sciences. From what I understand, the school accepted a grant that requires them to place applicants for diversity and this has resulted in more leniency with grades so they can fill the criteria of the grant.

Cpt reading test is nothing like teas. Basic high school stuff.

Submitted my application for Bunker Hill and Lawrence Memorial this week. Now the waiting begins!
