Im currently in my last semester at Bhcc's nursing evening program!! What type of questions do you have? Have you already taken the Teas?

I think you did pretty well on the teas, im sure u'll get in.. as long as you don't have any C's. I am a mother also so I can totally understand how you feel. The evening program worked better for me if you continue to plan on working. My first advice would be to reduce your work hours to 20-24.. U'll me much more sucessfull.. the first semester evening class was Mon 4-6:30 and Wed 4-9 (class and lab) and a thursday 4-10 clinical (don't worry we never stayed till 10pm)... honestly first semester was a joke it was very easy because the teachers are older and the practically told us everything that was going to be on the test. Second semester was a huge wake up call it was by far the hardest semester Medsurge and psych.. plus lab the schedule was kinda crazy mon 4-6:30 Tues and Wed Clinical 4-10 and Thursday class and lab 4-9 (it was very overwhelming) but you'll learn so much!! Third semester was maternity and pedi.. the material was very easy to understand (especially being a mother) but the tests were very difficult. There was also so much info to learn, especially maternity. The schedule was mon 4-6:30 Thur 4-6:30 and no lab anymore yayyy... I actually had a 12 hr sunday clinical which was very convenient but there was also a tues/wed 4-10 option. Also a difficult semester but not nearly as hard as the second one. And now finally the 4th semester is advanced medsurge (the one im in now) both of the teachers are very good especially the younger one Prof Love, shes smart and they give you alot of tips to pass the nclex. This semester is not hard at all its more like building up on 2nd semester stuff with more complex diseases. but again not bad at all.. class is mon 4-6:30 I have a 12hr wed clinical and thursday 4-7:30

Overall the program has it's flaws.. I dont think the evening program gets the same experience as the day.. but its perfectly made for working, studying moms (that what most of the evening class is)

Hello I am applying for the spring 2015 session. How many semesters total is the evening option? I've read some threads saying the teachers only read through powerpoints and people didn't feel they were getting much out of the lectures. Do you feel the same? i'm in between bhcc and a few other schools, so i'm looking for some pointers! is there atleast some organization? do you feel they program is preparing you for your boards?? thanks

I'm applying for January 2015 evening program! I just took the TEAS a couple of days ago and scored 86% overall with about an 85% in each section.

Does anyone know if they only look at the pre-requisites when they determine GPA or if they also look at co-requisites and other courses you may have taken?

I have to re-take Algebra and Anatomy I this summer because I'm not happy with my grades from years ago as well as Drug Calculations and Human Growth and Development. I'll also take Micro in the fall because I don't want to have to deal with that on top of nursing classes/clinicals.

LeeMay, I agree, it seems like the preparation for this has taken forever! I still have to finish up courses this summer so hopefully that will keep me a little more occupied.

How have you liked Micro? I'm nervous that it will be difficult but I know it'll definitely be quite interesting as well, which helps. And drug calculations? Easy/hard?

I spoke with one of the professors recently, she teachers the final nursing course and she told me that science courses are weighted more heavily than other prerequisites and that they really take TEAS scores into consideration, especially reading. She said that in the past they focused more on grades/GPA and found that they were denying a lot of students who had taken prerequisites at four year colleges and scored lower than those who took all prerequisites at Bunker Hill or other community colleges. They've found that the TEAS are a better marker for how a student will do in the program.

I'm a little upset that I won't be able to retake both Algebra and Anatomy like I had wanted to due to their schedules and my work schedule but after talking to the professor I feel that even though I have a better grade in the Anatomy I should retake that because it is a science course and if I get an A it will boost my chances. I just hope the C in Algebra won't hurt me! I have As in three other statistics courses, I just wish they would look at all previous coursework.

LeeMay and Jackelyn - are you planning on working during the program? Do you have other degrees? I hope we all get in

I applied for Fall 2014 day, and I just got my letter of acceptance on Saturday. I being taking classes at BHCC since 2009 but I took a year off. I finally finish my pre-requisites last summer. I got 78% in the TEAS because the grammar part, but my science and math where over 80% and my reading part was 79%. I have A's in all my sciences and my general GPA is 3.76. I am very exited to start nursing on September. I hope all you also get accepted.
