Sorry for the disappointment, Phillip. But you've got that back-up plan, and that's what matters most right now.

Ya know, programs aren't always what folks make them out to be. I find here, there's a lot of "friendly" competition between nursing programs, and folks here or there tend to bad mouth one program vs another. Most of the badmouthing seems unfounded to me--I applied to three programs, and I would have been proud to attend any one of them.

It's all in what you make of it, and if you're motivated, I'm sure you'll succeed!

I know you want to blow off steam....but if you are wondering why you didn't get in....

The school where I attend is big on GPA, pre-reqs, etc, but the thing that would set you apart as someone they want for their program is volunteer/health care experience. They want to know you truly have an interest in becoming a nurse, and that you have the skills to communicate and interact with people. Just a thought....hang in there!:)

Another thought, Phillip . . .

You certainly have the right to call and ask where you "fell short" of their expectations.

I was rejected by one of the programs I applied to, and I did call to find out why (it was the one with the least rigorous entry requirements, so I was surprized I didn't make it in).

They claimed I hadn't completed enough pre-reqs and recommended I enter their general studies program. Oddly, I already have a BA, so I have nearly all the pre-reqs done. It turned out they had "overlooked" my college transcript which they *did* have in my admissions file and hadn't counted any of that work toward my admission. They were willing to re-review my file, though I had already been accepted at the program I really wanted to get into, so I deferred the second look.

So, admissions offices *can* make errors--and even if there is no error, it'll give you a clearer picture of how they made their decision.

Sorry that you didn't get into the program that you wanted.

While you may have heard that Central's program "stinks", it may not be all that bad. Now that I'm graduating I have finally realized that what I've gotten out of my program is what I have CHOSEN to take. Does that make sense?

In any case, good luck and let us know what happens with Central.

I'm in Florida too.....a graduate of Univ of Central Florida (business major back in 1991). The school is much improved. I have heard the reason that others are being turned down is because the priority for the universities is to accept those that are RN's via the ADN program. I'm currently in an ADN program & have already been told that once I finish this program, it is automatic acceptance into the BSN program at UCF.

If you don't get into UCF.....then I would suggest considering an ADN program if you can get into one. Either that or finish up with your pre-req's.......the programs are highly competitive & your GPA doesn't really matter if you still have pre-req's to take.

Phil, the sentence I see staring at me is that you have most of your prereqs done. I, too, was looking at USF in TAmpa (I live in Bradenton), but I was pretty much told that you need to have all of their prereqs done. I'm waiting to get into the community colleges ADN program but I still have A&P2 and micro to finish.

I would suggest that you make sure that you have all of your prereqs done by the end of FAll 2003. I have no doubt that you will get in in FAll 2004.
