Hello all. Enrolled in wgu for may 1, 2015.still not sure about it. The comments about the rn to bsn vary. I have 10 classes to take and want to complete the program in 12 months
putting in 10 to 15 hours a week. Is this reasonable? Would love to talk to someone by phone with anyone who completed the program. Any comments are appreciated. I read in some reviews that there were a lot of very lengthy papers and others said a few short papers. Some students commented that the courses were very difficult and were impossible to study for and others said the opposite. So.... What's the story with this school because I'm enrolled in 2 schools and have not decided which one to go to. Thank you all for your comments .

Do you feel that you have strong writing skills? If so, you will be fine.

Hello,
I am enrolled in WGU's BSN program. I am about halfway completed, I started last June. I have about six classes left. I was not certain about it either when I started because the method seems so unusual. But now I think that their method is terrific (but it IS different!) This program was the third BSN program that I started, and the one that I stayed with. I love it.
For me, the pros are
1. All the work is in front of you. You have access to everything that you need, so you really can work at your own pace.
2. You speak with a Mentor every week at first and then about every 2 weeks. They help keep you on track and give you tips for completing your tasks.
3. You don't have to do group projects, it is just you and the work.
4. If you don't pass a paper, they return it to you, tell you what you need to adjust, and you resubmit. No big deal.
There are papers, some hard, some not so hard. There are a few tests, depending on the class, where you either go to a testing center or use the Webcam that they send you. There is alot of reading and alot of video watching. But all of the books are online-you don't need to buy them, they are included, and I haven't been hit with any weird fees yet!
A couple classes do have some projects where you have to get out in the Community and do some interviews.
If you are not self motivated, this is not for you. But if you can schedule yourself, and keep moving forward without motivation from classmates, this is for you.
Again, it is just you and the material. I love that.
I also love that I can be behind, and that is ok. If I have one week that I am behind, I can catch up on another week. Within reason of course.
The material is pretty straightforward, but I would say that the mixed responses about WGU are related to the various learning styles.
This simply isn't a good format for some learning styles.
For me, its the best!
Hope this helped...:)
Thanks for your reply. Very helpful. How many hours are you studying and completing assignments per week? And which classes are the easier ones?

I enrolled in WGU's online RN-to-BSN program last year. My start date was May 1, 2014 and I completed my 34 credits at the beginning of this month, so it took approximately 10 months for me to complete. My degree arrived in the mail on Saturday.
I completed 27 credits during my first 6 month term and the remaining 7 credits during my final term. I was able to take a vacation out of state and slack off on any studying for two months at a time. In my opinion the coursework was not writing-intensive.

I have a question regarding WGU. I am also enrolled to begin In May. Has anyone completed to RN to BSN and then transferred to a different school for MSN? In worried about this.
Hi commuter,
ive read several of your posts about wgu and they are very helpful. The post about how to streamline the course load are great. Which courses were the most time consuming ? I just have to take the 10 bsn classes, I have all the pre reqs.
It really depends on the week. I would say that I spend anywhere from 5-15 hours per class depending on the week and the assignment. I don't really know how to say which classes are easier. :) It depends on the material and how familiar you already are with the material. I find some of the classes with assessments that involve taking a test to be more time consuming.

The community health didactic (C228) was the most time-consuming for me, personally, because it included an objective assessment (a.k.a. final exam) as well as performance assessments (a.k.a. essays). The objective assessment was a proctored ATI exam.
What were your study strategies? Several students have given tips about how to avoid the busy work and get right to the assessments . Any advice is appreciated.
thanks

For C228, I used the ATI study guide provided by WGU, as well as the Community Focused Passbook (click on the link below to take a look):
