BSN but want to take LPN/LVN exam. HELP!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hi Everyone!

I am a newbie here so I hope someone would welcome me with their warm knowledge about my dillema.

I studied and finished BSN abroad. and NO I AM NOT A BOARD PASSER. I am located in LA, California now. I want to challenge the NCLEX-PN exam while working on my paperworks for NCLEX-RN. I know it'll take time to pass the NCLEX-RN because waiting on the eligibility letter takes me forever. I want to be a licensed holder of anything(that is related to my course) so finding job will not be that pain in the buttt. Can anyone point me and tell me where should I start so I could take or challenge the NCLEX-PN exam? Challenging CNA exam was my first choice but someone in this forum advise me to take NCLEX-PN (LVN/LPN) instead. So I'm taking his advise. He didnt reply again so I thought posting another question would be helpful than waiting on his reply.

Please tell me where to start. I am planning to call the BRN regarding this but I want to do my own research first.

What are the papers I'm going to need to challenge the NCLEX-PN exam?

Is being an LPN/LVN is better that being a CNA?

I'm a BSN so do I need to take classes or training still?

Thank you for reading my post. Have a good one.

I wonder why everyone is so judgmental here. Try to be nice and answer humbly please. I posted this dilemma just to get an another opinion. I didn't pass any NCLEX-PN application yet so relax everyone. Yes I'm still waiting on my NCLEX RN paperworks, I want to work while waiting for it that is why I thought about challenging the CNA exam or Taking the LVN exam. Since 90% from this forum said I should not take it and wait for my eligibility letter, I think that's the best way I should do now.

The truth hurts sometimes. When you don't get the answer you are looking for, that does not mean people are being judgmental.

It takes the same amount of time for the NCLEX-PN to be processed, i.e it is the same boards.

If you have already started the RN application, follow it through because unless you want to wait another 6 weeks.........................

No. I wasnt hurt. Like I said I'm a newbie here just didn't expect the answer to be unprofessional since all of us here are educated.

I get it. So the process is just the same. Okay. I'm

reviewing my NCLEX RN now, just thought about taking another exam.

like the other users said, go to that BON website download app and apply, (although during this time u could be preparing for your RN boards). I am guessing you want to work as an LPN while studying and preparing for RN Boards. Just know that LPN boards require preparation too.

Something is fishy about your question and the very odd statement that you "passed' the NCLEX RN application.

No one here has treated you unprofessionally as you claim. You say you graduated from school in the Philippines so I suspect you WELL know that caliotter3 is correct in saying that you need to ask your question in the international forum.

There was a time when the general forum was almost taken over by Filipino RN grads asking how to become RN's in the US. Now as you most likely know, AN wants such questions asked in the international forum.

Why would you still want to do NCLEX-PN if your application for NCLEX-RN has gone through... contrary to popular belief the PN exam is not easy. so if you were looking for an easy way out, that is not it. Just study hard and go through with the NCLEX-RN.[/quote']

In my experience PN boards were much easier to me than RN boards....but thats just my experience. :o

I don't understand how you are going to work while waiting to take your RN boards. Do you have a job lined up for LPN position somewhere? It is not that easy to find an employment, let me tell you this. You won't have a job next morning after passing -PN exam, unless the job is waiting for you.

If your NCLEX-RN application process is through, that means you have your ATT for NCLEX? Once you have your ATT, you can take the test even tomorrow if you wish. I don't know what waiting time you are talking about. How long after today are you going to take RN boards? 6 months? 2 months? 1 week?

And if your RN exam application is through, why apply and wait for another exam process like NCLEX-PN, instead of taking RN boards?

I really don't get any of this, sorry. I try to make sense, but...

Im curious as to why the NCLEX-RN is going to take a long time but you beleive the NCLEX-PN wont? I graduated in mid-August and received my LVN in December. And no I didnt wait around I took the first test available and borrowed money to pay for it so I could get it done ASAP. Any issues with the RN you will have with LVN. Sorry for the not so good news

Yeah unless you plan to put off taking your boards, wouldn't it take just as long to wait for authorization to test for the LVN?

Same Question. Why do you take the NCLEX PN??? If I were you, I would just review for NCLEX RN while my papers are being process... thats what most of my friends did (who graduated from the Philippines).

- thank you for correcting my ignorance. i already passed my nclex-rn application. do you think i'm still allowed to take the nclex-pn exam. i just want to have a license. i'm a soldiers wife and we are moving a lot. finding a job without a license is so difficult. thanks!

to challenge the lvn nclex, your paperwork must be sent to your college/university where you obtained your training. they will have to fill the paperwork out, which includes the number of didactic and clinical hours you had in various areas as well as a specific amount of post clinical hours. the paperwork is to be sent back to you, not to the calif bon, and then you submit it to the calif bon with other information.

to apply for the calif bon, you must have a social security card. to work in the us, you must have a green card.
