BSN programs that accept low GPAs?

Published

Hi everybody! I've tried googling a list with schools that accept GPAs like 2.5, 2.7, 3.0 but haven't found a clear list. Any school suggestions or links? Thank you so so so much!

I would make a list of the nursing schools I'm interested in and then call the departments and ask them how many students they admit to the program and how many normally apply. Some only accept 40 students and have 200-300 apply per semester, while some may accept 80-100 and have 200-250 apply. It all just depends. GOOD LUCK!

You should probably reevaluate why your GPA is so low and consider retaking some classes. Things like A&P need to be understood before moving on.

Anatomy, Physio, Micro, Bio I have all A's. So I can't do much better than that. It's actually the general ed classes like history That I slacked on my first year of college.

I would suggest looking at schools that are holistic with their admissions. Are you willing to move?

side note: funny how people are quick to assume that you must have failed science courses to have a low GPA:yawn:

I didn't assume anything. It was merely a statement, considering no insight was given as to what classes were done poorly in.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I would consider retaking the non science classes that I didn't do very well to bring my GPA up, since you did well in your sciences. Nursing schools have become very competitive, and with such GPA your chances of getting into the program of your choice is very slim. At least a 3.3 and up are competitive. Good luck.

I am willing to move! I live in CA, which I am figuring out is one of the most competitive states given the population. What do you mean by being holistic with their admissions? Thanks

By "hollistic" she means that more than cumulative GPA will be taken into account. You may also be in luck because most nursing program weigh science course GPAs more heavily than other factors and since you have all A's you're on the right track. In the meantime, i would retake the classes you did poorly in online or over a winter or spring mini. Replacing a few Cs/Ds with As will drastically improve your GPA.

Take the bull by the horns. Mention your low GPA on your admission essay and explain how well you did in the sciences. Tell them you have learned a lot since your poor-performance semesters. Ask for an admission interview.

I would look into private schools. I go to a private university, and our nursing program takes everyone who meets the prereqs. The prereqs at my school are a cumulative gpa of 2.5, core gpa 2.5, the required prereq courses (A&P 1 +2, intro to chem, math and dosages class, etc.) and a Hesi A2 score of 69 or above. When I asked why they took everyone, they said, "We take everyone because the students usually weed themselves out in the first couple semesters anyways." My school is a BSN program.

That being said, not many students meet the prereqs. I start the 26th and I think my class is only 15 people, including myself.

Translation: we take everyone we can rip off financially.
