BSN graduate who wants to be a USRN

World Registration

Published

Hi. I'm a BSN graduate from the Philippines. I'm neither a resident nor a citizen of the US however, I'm planning to go to Florida this August. Is it possible to take the NCLEX once I'm in the state even though I'm not yet a resident? Or do I have to be a resident of the state first?

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

You need to be deemed eligible. You can't just take the nclex. You must apply to the Florida board of nursing for a nursing license by examination as an internationally educated nurse. All instructions are on the board of nursing website. You need your credentials assessed first. You don't have to physically take the nclex in the states you can pay an extra fee and take the exam in any local its offered. If you don't have work rights why do you wish to take the NCLEX? Passing the nclex isn't sufficient to get a work visa. Are you licensed in the Philippines? Do you have paid nursing experience? The US has an abundance of new grad and experienced nurses seeking work
