Hello, I am a nursing student that will graduating in May. I have a question for everyone, do you think it is wise to continue right on and get your BSN degree or wait awhile and go back later? I am not sure what I want to do, I have been in school for awhile and looking forward to starting a new job but also want to go on and finish my BSN. Thank you for your input and replys!

I would suggest you do a search on here, there have been MANY threads about this very subject, some recently. This is a very hot topic and you will get different answers.

Depends upon your life circumstances of course but, that not considered, it is best to get a BSN nowadays. Wish I had done it years ago when my brother suggested it instead of saying I simply had enough of school. With continuing education requirements and so many new opportunities in nursing for those with higher education one should not limit ones opportunities for advancement. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
Thanks for the input, I really want to continue on but I am burned out with school. Maybe if I just do a little at a time and eventually get it done!!!

I recommend a brief break to avoid burnout and to allow yourself the opportunity to focus on the transition from student to practicing professional. A lot of people struggle with that transition -- and it is made more difficult if you can't give your job your full attention. It's hard to do both things well at the same time.
It doesn't have to be a long break -- just 6-9 months. Then start back to school on a very part time basis at first. See how that goes before committing to a grueling schedule of full time work and full time study that will burn you out to the point where you will not want the nursing career you have just worked so hard for.
If you take it a little slower, you will be able to take care of your mental health along the way.

Key word "burned out on school"
If you want to get your BSN and are right now burned out on school waite. Get a job. In time you can look into BSN programs that interest you and can return when you are not burned out on school and when it is right for you. In the mean time you will be getting the best possible education as nursing is where your real education begins not in school.

plus, if you wait, good chance you'll work for an employer who will pay the way to your bsn.

I started my BSN while I was still in my ADN program. The school I am at for my BSN allowed you to enroll early and take classes in the summer to get a head start. I just graduated from my ADN program and will start up my BSN again in May. I think it was the best set up for me since I am "student role" Im just going for it full throttle. I fear if I waited I would get too comfortable (with the money and job) and not return to school. I would say I dont think you would get burned out as it will be a new school, new teachers, new friends so its all fresh. I highly recommend it. I wasnt burned out but that doesnt mean I am not counting the months till I am done!
