BSN acceptance tougher than 4 years ago?

Hi,

I'm nearly finished with my BSN prereqs and about to apply at the U next month. My brother has been a BSN for 3 years now, and I'm wondering... generally speaking, is admission now tougher than it was about 3/4/5 years ago? For example, I don't recall my bro ever doing community service, which now is pretty much compulsory for admission consideration. Thanks and happy new year to everyone!!

It depends on the program. I think overall most schools are adopting more stricter policies for admission. Some start adding new requirements while others raise the current gpa and entrance exam minimums a little more.

at my school the requirements are the same as they used to be (for the most part) but the competition is tougher. there are sooo many people getting into nursing right now and many of them have the grades to back it up. i tried several times for my college's bsn program and never got in..i have a good gpa, finished all my gen eds, and am a good student overall and still was declined. i guess the other 100+ students who applied too were just better prepared than i was. luckily i got into my college's adn program!

I agree with you I think generally the criteria is the same but the competition is what makes it hard to get into programs. So I will have to say yes it is definitely harder to get into school now. I know some people that have been turned away from SF State with 4.0's and why? Its because 500 more applicants also have a 4.0. So go figure. My school (CSUEB) says there just isnt enough space to for all the students that apply. I remember reading an article someone posted on here that said $40,000 qualified students were turned away in 2008.

I didn't realize SFSU was so hard to get into. I thought it was UCSF, which is rated so much higher. Now I'm reconsidering sending in my application. My GPA is nowhere near a 4.0 overall, but a 3.85 in prereqs. However, I have lots of volunteer work, and a good story to tell.

Apply anyway you never know. I know you are going to get in somewhere, I just know it:D Goodluck!
