Has anyone turned in their application yet?! Btw, I heard that Central campus might NOT have a May class :sniff:

Well, its hard for me to put a number on the amount of hours I study. Sometimes I goof off and don't put in the time I should. I have kids, so when I am home in the afternoon/evening, its hard for me to study. At first, I did study more. I was trying to find my groove. Once I had it all figured out is when I slacked more. I don't advise slacking, though. It could get you in trouble.

The first test, at least at north campus, is especially difficult because you are trying to find your groove-you’re trying to figure out the best way to study, manage your time, remember the info, adjusting to nursing school course load from just taking pre-reqs and the first test covers almost 700 pages of reading. For summer, it will be a lot. You will have to study harder, longer and smarter than the regular semester. Plus you have math for a few weeks to deal with, and pharm. With pharm, I just studied the day of the test. I didn’t have time to do it more than that. I passed with a B. But, some people, it won’t be like that for, and some people will want and need to study more. So you will need even more time to study.

All different types of people passed, and all different types of people did not. I knew people who worked with no kids, people who didn't work and had kids, people who didn't work and didn't have kids and people who had kids AND worked, and some passed, some withdrew, and some failed. You have to go in hitting the ground running right away. You cannot let yourself get behind on the first exam because it can snowball from there, and this is especially true for NP2 because the second test will kill everyone’s grade.

Anyway, my advice, more so for summer than any other semester, is if you can swing it, don’t work. If you need to keep working, work as little as possible. Maybe you can take a week or two off of work to see how the first couple of weeks go and then decide for yourself. I hope this helped.

....why is this all scaring me :sniff:

Thanks for the tip sunraygrl, i'll keep all that info in mind when I start. Lord knows I need this, so trust me when i say i won't be messing around and slacking

Sorry RN2BKD, didn't mean to scare you. They scared us the first week of school @ north campus and in the end, it wasn't that bad. I think hearing the scary stuff is good though, because you go in expecting the worst and it can only get better from there. If you go in expecting roses and sunshine, you're going to come out disappointed and repeating the course.

It is a lot of work and I am not the best student in the world. I tend to slack off here and there and procrastinate a bit, but if I can do it, then I truly believe that anyone can, and I didn't just barely pass by the skin of my teeth. By the time the finals came around, I had no questions as to whether or not I was passing, it was more a question of will my grade be a B or a C. Here I am, a person who got a B in A&P1 lecture and a B in Micro lecture, courses that are nothing like nursing courses, and I managed a B in nursing process. I didn't think it was possible, but it was. Just go in with a positive attitude, make the most of what you have, and learn to study smart. Like I said, if I can do it, anyone can.

Hey all,

Where it states my application status it reads as "applied" but from what I've gathered here after everything is successfully submitted and the application fee paid, it should read "in review". Am I mistaken, or are they just taking time updating status because of the long weekend?

Hi Everyone after reading 17 pages of this post I am well informed....thank you all....I put in my application for BC North campus Nursing on Dec 10. and still I don't have points posted. I also applied to UM accelerated Nursing program and just received an acceptance letter yesterday. I already have a BS in Finance and dreamed of being a Doctor since I was a child. Long story short I live by North campus of BC and have heard awful things of UM Nursing program. Although UM Accelerated Option is only 12 months beginning in May and gives a BSN, it has a tremendous cost attachment, not to mention a great long distance drive. I want to make sure I choose a program that better prepares me for the real world of nursing. Please if anyone has any information. Please share. Thanks alot!

If i were you i would get in contact with someone @ BCC ASAP i had some problems and it was resolved before the deadline.

Have your transcripts been evaluated?

sunraygurl.....thanks and your right at least i know what to expect

sunny do u know what edition we need for dosage calculation. i am buying it today and should i get the orange or blue book for saunders. also how was pharmacology any tips

doasge calc is 2nd edition (but I never even bought the book and a lot of others never used their books)

saunders is blue

pharm- i just studied the day of the exams and managed a B in the class. I'm not sure I would advice that to everyone, because thats what people told me and all of my friends and we thought it was too hard to just study that way. If you can, look over your notes more often. He tests straight from his lectures so you do not need the book. This is only true for the professor that teaches at both north and central.

Hi Sunray,

Thank you for all of the advice and honest, good and bad. This really helps give me a better idea of what to expect and how better to prepare.
