Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!
Hey Katherine,
I kind of have the same question. There was a post that was in the thread a little earlier as it read,
"Get a Cheap Copy of Fundamentals of nursing (7th edition)
I used this one for class I received a B in Process 1 & 2 so content
*** start off by reading the chapters about the Nursing Process
Critical Thinking in Nursing Practice
Nursing Assessment
Nursing Diagnosis
Planning Nursing Care
Implementing Nursing Care
Evaluation
These chapters are the foundation of the science of nursing ADPIE understanding this is essential and the early you have it everything else is easier.
After Nursing Practice Chapters Read - Vital Signs , Health Assessment/Physical Exam, Infection Prevention and Control, Hygiene (also very important chapters to understand before class starts)
For Process 1 you will have 30 chapters to read and take exams on
For Process 2 you will have 20 chapters or nearly that many (and these chapters are all pretty big chapters a few over 100 pages)
Start Learning how to answer Nclex style questions
Buy cheap versions/editions of Fundamentals of Success / Test Success (both by nugent) and Nursing Fundamentals Review
before class starts you only need one of these but I bought all 3
Test Success may be the best because it goes over everything to prepare you for nursing school"
On a whim I just ordered the book, but the 8th edition. I hope this is what we need. I found it on amazon for $79. Many other sites are selling it for $90 and up.
Can anyone give us details as it whether we need to start reading now?
Hi Bethany I believe people who are currently in the program are suggesting to all of us to start reading now. Try Amazon you can often find a used (good condition)/ or new copy of the fundamentals book at a decent price from a private seller. Cheaper than the school bookstore.
Yes it is dolfanjenny I went to the bookstore today to see how much was it it's 180 something......
I don't know if anyone is having the same issue with the certificates but Ill put it out there just in case. I mentioned I had emailed Nicole, regarding the expiration on these certificates. I had done all but one last october and I was wondering if i needed to redo them or just update them (do them over) when it got closer to the expiration date. Nicole responded to me today and said:
"The certificates are good for 2 years. If you completed them in 2014, then you would renew before they expire (2016)."
So I don't have to do them until it expires. Thank goodness because I have so much on my plate. I still have the plastic on my fundamentals book...I don't think I will get any reading done because of all my classes so I will just have to find time before the program starts lol
and we should either exchange phone numbers or whatever you guys use. I can do that or whatsapp (i like that for group messages)
Thanks for the information Jenny. I purchased the book on Amazon and it should be arriving by Thursday. =) Have you started reading it? Also, I saw that there were some questions about the certificates. We just need a total of 3 copies (photo copies I'm assuming), but all this information will be given at orientation correct?

For the LPNs waiting on acceptance emails, I just received an email from Nicole saying they have not sent out the LPN to RN Transition emails as of yet. They will go out sometime this week.
