Broward College Nursing May 2015

Published

Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!

Hey everyone, Ive been super busy....I have a question for you all. I have done all the certifications except for one, CAE0644, I did all the others on ceufast.com but I cannot find that specific one on there. Have you guys found it? I even looked it up and found a reference number for it from an old thread in January for Broward college, but when I typed in the ref number, there were no results :/, i wanna get that over with. Also, I did all the other certifications last year, around August, would that be ok you think? Or do I need to redo them?

Hey giggles! The CAE0644 can't be found on CEUfast only on broward site I've been having the same problem couldn't find it and I think the reason is cause we have to wait for registration to begin next month. As far as the certificates still being good, if your referring to all the HSC certificates those I believe are good for 2 years so I believe you would have to do them again. I don't think they'll accept but u can always ask someone in admission and see what they say

Did everyone or will everyone use CEUfast? How does that work? Currently I am registered for the ones through Broward but just on the schedule. Thanks!

Ummm I think there's only 11 days left this month (probably a typo)....guess I'm counting right Londonfog! Lol

Woah yes I definitely meant to type 11 LMAO! I'm trying not to count lol... Just so hard D:

Thanks Londonfog, all that information is really helpful! What i meant was Broward have received my general application (the deadline for internationals is 1st March for May semester) and they said they will be sending out my acceptance pack and visa documents hopefully very soon. I imagine I will have to do pre-requisites because my degree was completely unrelated. I've been a nursing assistant for 3 years, so that's what has finally encouraged me to do my training. I'm hoping to start in May, however I'm being realistic in how long the process can take, and goodness knows how I will take pre-entrance tests! :s My sister is getting married in September, so as long as I can come home for that, I'm happy haha.

Been reading on other forums about how many people graduate versus the number of people who drop out/get kicked out! Definitely crazy statistics, lets hope for the best for us all!

Hey Katherine_q u can do it through the school or CEUfast it completely up to u. The school accepts both. CEUfast is cheaper the only thing is that the CAE0644 certificate that I mentioned above u can only do through broward I think it's $15 not sure. I'm doing my CPR renewal at paramount training ($49) cheapest one I could find u just have to make sure wherever u do CPR that its approved through the American heart association. Hope this helps!

Lol!! Don't worry I knew what u meant! Though for a minute I was thinking. ..damn 22 days!...then it hit me :cheeky: we might as well accept that we most likely won't hear anything until after spring break but that's ok. Gives me time to do all the other stuff so I don't feel so overwhelmed later

Hey guys! I'm in my first semester at North campus and it's been a riot! We just did our first day of clinicals today and it was awesome! This program has started off different than I imagined. It's difficult, but very manageable as long as the effort is put in and you stay dedicated. I'm pulling great grades so far.

Some advice for surviving your first month:

Paperwork: They ask for a lot of complicated paperwork (physical, vaccines, titer, drug test etc.) Get it together as best you can but know that if something is missing, it's not the end of the world! You'll have about three weeks into the program to get anything you're missing.

Reading: There is a ton of reading for Process! The first test (for North this term) was on Vital Signs, Health Assessment, Safety, Hygiene, Documentation, and the Nursing Process. (start reading now!) Attempt to read everything in the main Fundamentals textbook (written by Potter/Perry). Pay special attention to the boxed readings.

Tests: Purchase a good NCLEX review book and the Fundamentals Success book (written by Nugent/ Vitale). They are invaluable for learning NLCEX style. The tests are all NCLEX style questions (mostly scenario type) so get familiar with that before the first test!

Math: Don't worry about the math as it will all be explained to you. There are two chances to take the first math test (its in the 4th week of the semester) and a calculator can be used.

Preparing: You will need to print everything that is posted to D2L! Don't wait to do this! Purchase some good shoes as they will be invaluable when doing long hours at the hospital. It comes around faster than you think! Buy a rolley bag! (tons of heavy books), and lastly, PREPARE yourself, your family, and your friends for a new you. This program is tough because it requires so much time and energy. Everything will fall into place if you start off knowing that you can do this and will put every effort into it!

Best of luck to all of you!

Another note:

Application in Review = you got accepted, they are just waiting for you to have your orientation and confirm that you're joining. (This won't change until your first orientation!!)

You can buy the scrub pants from any store as long as there are minimal logos and they are royal blue. (it'll save you $$)

Check Craigslist locally to find cheap BC textbooks. I got a TON of books for $100. Buy books used on Amazon! START READING!

Another thing, lab days are once a week (tue OR wed) and start at 730.

Hospital days start at 630. Prepare your body for waking up early on these days!

OMG "whateverpie" You are the best THANKS A BILLION for your insight. May I ask what type of shoes you have to purchase ? This is great news YAY !!!!!!

Do they have to be all white ?

AmbitiousQ,

I've purchased the Dove model by Nursemates. The rules are that for clinical days (hospital) your shoes must be all white and preferably all leather. (laces are ok but it would suck if you got body fluids on them!)

During school days, you're allowed to wear any kind of sneaker (any color). The key is to get something comfy to be in all day.

The classes are cold! You may wear long sleeve white shirts under the uniform (or any sweater but for class only.)

In all the excitement, remember that your goal is to be successful! You guys have all this time before the semester starts, use it wisely. Practice taking vitals, read the chapters I've mentioned and SLEEP! :)
