Broward College Nursing May 2015

Published

Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!

Does anyone know if it's significantly harder to get into the transition program? Should I apply for both generic and transition? And approximately how many people do they take for each program? Up here they take around 150 per semester for generic but only 20 for transition.

OKAY GUYS! I just got back from BC from taking the HESI exam about an hr ago.

Here are the results::

PASSED!

Reading comprehension: 88%

Grammar: 90%

Vocabulary: 82%

-English Language comp score: 86.67%

Anatomy: 92%

Math: 98%

Cumulative score: 90%

Learning style: kinesthetic

Personality style: creative/leader

ok. So my thoughts about the test:

1. Teas V vs HESI A2. Teas was much harder. Although I have to say the reading comprehension part was a bit confusing because I found some answer choices annoyingly "fitting"......in other words....maybe two answer choices made sense to me. Also, I had two questions asked twice...i don't know what that was about

2. Math portion....HOOOOLLLY COOOWWW, so many ratios. Easy! Some conversions like kg to grams, ounces to cups, etc. Addition and subtraction of fractions, multiplication of decimals.....ahem* you can use the calculator!

3. Anatomy caught me off guard. I took both I and II during this past summer at FAU. The teas in that sense might have been a bit easier, I felt the anatomy portion was a bit more specific on the HESI, BUT!!!!! the answer choice kinda popped out. There were questions about hormones, cells, bones, not specific but for example (changing the exact question I got): "where is the talus?": foot. Reference to body position was just one question, some questions about body cavities too.

4. Vocab....it was kinda hard. I am not going to lie. It's sort of either you know it or you don't kinda scenario. But English is my second language and if I did ok, then I am sure with a bit of practice you will be ok! Grammar was fairly easy, I just whisper to myself as I read it and I find it easier to find errors.

Hopefully that will ease someone's mind with my review of the test. Definitely cold in the test room.

It was only me and another woman, she was retesting anatomy and math, I freaked out a bit after I heard her say that she was a retaker, but I did okay!

Thank you Jessussss!

Yay! Congratulations!!!! Good scores! Did u submit application yet? Or do u still need to finish something else?

Also xocrash: not sure how that works. When u go speak to advisor she'll clarify it for u. If I were u I would write down all the questions u have so that when u are sitting down with her u don't forget anything. That's what I did cause I didn't want to walk out of there and think to myself "damn it I forgot to ask her this!"

Im finishing up my nutrition class at FAU, so hopefully they will have the official transcripts ready by the second week of december. Im thinking of turning in the application, the scores and pay the fee on thursday after the info session. I just wish I could have everything ready, they have my transcripts but they won't put my information into the system yet because it's incomplete due to my nutrition class being in progress. I think I will get it over with and when the transcripts are ready I will send them out electronically so I don't have to keep going to BC. I am so relieved I did well on the test! Do you know the averages of the HESI scores of people who get accepted?

People get in with scores in the low 80's so don't worry your fine. If u were below 80 I would worry but your good! As far as application go turn it! They will process and worse case status will say "denied pending documents" then once they receive and evaluate it will change to under review. Just go on once in a while and check especially when u find out your transcripts have been sent. U have to give them a couple weeks to process but if u see they haven't done it yet go talk to someone in registration or an advisor and they'll help u out. That's what I had to do cause for some reason they were taking forever to process my transcripts but then I went and spoke with someone and they did it in 2 secs

thank you! and yeah, i guess thats what i will do! I know bc takes forever to process things lol

I'm waiting on all my transcripts to show up still. I figured electronic transfer would have been a little more.. Immediate? So I'm spending the next few days studying for the HESI and I think I'm going to take it Thursday!

Well good luck to you! Remember math is a lot of conversions and fractions and ratios. Just look over gaby's post she just finished HESI today and summed it up pretty good.

Fractions and ratios I'm good with. Conversions is where I need to brush up. I'm almost finished with my Elsevier review book.. I've gotten 100s on the sample questions so far. I can definitely ignore the chem and physics sections in the review book though?

Specializes in Telemetry, IMCU.

Brush up on it. Conversions are what you'll be seeing once you're in the program. :)

Yeah. Skip physics and chem. no need to know. My test had more kilograms to grams and ounces to lbs along with pints and gallons. 30ml in an ounce...8oz in a cup 2 cups in one pint two pints in a quart four quarts in a gallon etc.

Awesome :) I'm full of questions.. Which means I probably need to stay off the old threads on here from previous classes! Is chem a pre-req for the program? I don't remember seeing it as one on the BC site but I thought I read on here that it is?
