Broward College Nursing May 2015

Published

Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!

I'm starting in the fall. I would love to have the list if you wouldn't mind sending it to me. [email protected]

@jboogs89 Thank you! How is it going so far for you? I am excited and can't wait to start! Is there anything in particular that I can look forward to going to central? Also I bought a used book for $30 off amazon I think that was a pretty good deal.

Hello all! I hope your first semester went well! I got accepted for the fall and wanted to know if anyone had the list of books we need. Your help would be great! My email is [email protected]

@trish.a. Would you mind sending it to me if you receive one? [email protected]

Nursing classes prepare you for a career; this is not a an art class! These are peoples' lives you're dealing with. You may want to refer to your Potter and Perry book at the conclusion of your studies when you're studying for the NCLEX or when you forget something at any point. Some books should not be rented.

I currently work in the healthcare field and have for the last 6 years. I am fully aware that this is preparing me to deal with patients lives. In my past college courses I know for fact that some professors use more PowerPoint notes than actual book text so I was just trying to get a general idea on what to expect, and if I should actually purchase the book vs. rent. But I decided to buy the book after all. I just know every educator delivers content in different forms.

Perry and Potter is a great book. There are hundreds if not thousands of great nursing books but ask most people they never open up Perry and Potter again after process I and II. I don't know if its from the pain and torture of having to read and understand almost every page of the book in such a short period of time (I used to have nightmares about Perry and Potter especially when I would fall asleep while studying)

Listen its everyone's choice I don't think selling it or renting it will really impact your ability to care for patients. And typically for the NCLEX you probably will want to get books that are structured to best help you prepare for the NCLEX Saunders, Lippincott, and Kaplan NCLEX books.

And I've been in program since May 2014 and my roommate and bunch of her friends graduated and Perry & Potter isn't something thats really used as reference. Its not very good for finding answers but great tool to read and learn but maybe not the best reference tool. But thats my perspective and I understand the viewpoint of keeping to review I just don't think it will hinder your development as a provider if you don't keep it. I would say the Med/Surg Book and Cox book is referenced more often in actual practice and NClex review.

AS far as a book list may be confusing cause there are so many books and the editions might of changed and I'll only put down most important

davis drug guide for nurses 13th edition ( i think there is a 14th now) -- Deglin

Pocket Companion for Physical Examination/ Health Assessment -- Jarvis

Medical/Surgical Nursing 8th ed --

Study guide for Med surg

Cox Clinical Applications of Nursing Diagnosis and Interventions 5th -- Newfield

Fundamentals of Nursing 8th ed with study guid and clinical companion -- Perry and Potter

Clinical Nursing Skills and Techniques 8th ed -- Perry and Potter

Davis Comprehensive Handbook of Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests with Nursing -- Van Leeuwen

I would get these books below before class starts

Fundamental Success 3rd edtion

Test Success

Reviews and Rationales

**these books teach you how to answer Nursing questions and give you rationales on why answers are correct (get at least one)

There are other books but these are the main ones

Ok thank you, I just thought that comment made by the other user was pretty harsh as if renting would make me unable to properly care for a patient. But anywho I am more than grateful for all the information you have provided. Looking into it now.

Just a heads up for everyone planning on going to central campus, I went to the school today and was told that orientation will be on July 29th.

That was for the august 2015 program sorry posted under the wrong thread:facepalm:

You didn't fail the math exam because the teachers. You failed because you missed the problems. They can't change that and let you stay in because everyone before that failed had been in the same boat. Those are the rules 2 chances. So just take the remedial class and start process 2 again.

Its so sad that a person cannot freely express feelings and experiences without facing resentment, hostility and maybe repercussion. I guess you have to have your say on your heart. To the person who failed the math test, I am so sooooo SORRY to hear that you cannot continue to process 2 at this time. I can imagine how hard you worked to pass process 1 and to have such a letdown can be devastating. Please don't let it get you discouraged, go back and give the program all you have and then some, graduate pass your test and become a nurse and then go on to bigger and better things and you don't ever have to think about Broward College again, you can block it. We should all try to be empathetic towards each other.
