Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!
Don't worry sweetcup! You still have until the 15th to rearrange your schedule, don't give up just yet! Worst case scenario, if you absolutely don't want to go to South campus, then defer. But if you can deal with it, that would be great. You've worked hard to get to this point. Who knows, maybe you'll end up loving South!
By any chance did any one do their titers yet? Are you guys doing it from your primary doctor? My primary won't have appointments till after april29 which is when everything is due.
Would they accept it from any lab test center??
Hey phainaht!! Woohoo! For a minute I thought I was gonna be the only one in class! LOL!!
As far as doing your titers like M0nk3y007 said you can go see any doctor, especially if you have insurance it shouldn't be an issue.
Hey Hammockbound was wondering if u can answer a couple questions (since u go to south) if u don't mind...from the book list we're given are there any that u think we can just rent vs buying. Like "rent the drug book cause your only going to need it that semester" or "buy nursing surgical book cause you're going to need that throughout the program" also what exactly is in the "nursing kits"? & lastly is orientation really from 8-6pm???!! I'm just trying to figure out what their planning on talking about for 10 hours! Thx in advance! Any info would be great! :)
I'm not Hammockbound but I can answer a few of your questions since I am procrastinating on my studying at the moment.. ha. :whistling:My suggestion to you would be to buy all of your books. That is my opinion, others may say different but I use all of my books as a reference guide and refer back to them often, you will have to complete care plans and brush up on your clinical skills and will need to refer back to old textbooks to guide you for those things. Also, if you plan to continue with your RN to BSN, you might want those books as something in your toolbox. The drug guide you definitely need every semester.. you will have to look up the drugs you are giving your patients in every clinical. Medsurg book you use in 3 separate semesters, so definitely need that one. I also suggest getting the Success books, they help get you prepared for answering nursing school questions and help you with your studies.
The nursing kit you won't need until Process II but it contains things you need to learn and practice your clinical skills. 4 x 4 gauze pads, a foley catheter kit, IV tubing, etc. You will need these things to pass your return-demo. I can't really remember how long orientation really was but a 10 hour day is not out of the question, especially at the beginning of the program. There is a lot to learn and go over and you will have 12 hour on campus lab days in the beginning. During orientation there will be a woman who comes in to speak with you who will help you with how to study for nursing exams, how to map out your time and see how much time you need to dedicate to your studies and class time, (I remember when we did this... the total hours for actually physically sitting in class was 38 per week, crazy I know!)
You guys all seem to be on top of your game already though, asking questions and getting things done even before orientation which is great! I have no doubts that you will be successful in this program. Just try your best and never give up. Keep your eyes on the prize. Write your name on your bathroom mirror with R.N. after it!
Smilecuzimhappy you are awesome! Thx for the great advice! I hope I didn't take away too much of your study time (hehehe)
I figured we would need most of these books throughout the program just wanted to be sure.
I'm actually all done with my paperwork that needs to be turned in I just haven't been able to get to campus to turn it in. I'm planning on heading over there Monday cause I also want to stop at financial aid and the bookstore. I'm planning on hitting the books to do some reading and start getting a head start! Thx again!

I don't understand. You couldn't get the campus close to your house? So just wait till august. I wouldn't drop out of nursing for that...its only a few months difference.
