Hey there! This is a tread for anyone trying to get into the May nursing program in Broward College. Have you guys completed everything we need?
I still have to take my HESI and I am half way done with the Health Core class. I am so nervous. I am still not completely sure on how BC does the admission criteria, but I have high hopes.
Leave anything below. Lets help each other out :)
Congrats to all, I was also accepted into the may program and my orientation is set fir apr 8 at 9am. I'm glad I found this post and we should all keep posting and sharing ideas and other info we know so we can help each other.....so far all the info I know was already mentioned so if I get anything new then I'll share. The battle is tough but the victory is sweeter than honey so let's stay focus and determine to proudly walk the stage nect year...Good luck to all
I started the bc nursing program January 2014 (Central Campus). I'm currently in process II and my brother has gotten accepted for the May 2014 program just as most of you. Just to help you guys out I'll periodically check up on here to answer any questions. For the most part, you will definitely need to have all of your ceu's done (I used ceufast.com), I took the basic life support(bls) class at broward college. They require that your cpr card be from the American Heart Association. Make sure your physicals and immunizations(shots) are up to date. You'll have to do 2 background checks. One online and one at a fingerprint place. Once you get all that stuff done, make sure it's in the correct order that the Medical dept wants it in. As of now I've only really used the Perry and Potter eighth edition and clinical skills Perry and Potter. You won't really get your reading list until your professor posts it up on D2l within the syllabus or directly emails it to you. A word of advice, READ! Read! and after your done reading, READ some more! My life has drastically changed from before I started the program til now. Make sure if you have a significant other, that you bring them to the pre admissions meeting! There is where they will understand how demanding this program is of your time. I made that mistake and it took some time before my gf actually understood that I couldn't spend nearly as much time with her than before. Uniforms, buy at least two sets just to be safe but one set will do. You should go ahead and also get a stethoscope and pen light. To those who want to read early: Some chapter you will want to focus on are: Health Assessment and Physical assessment, Vital signs, Patient Safety, Infection control, Nursing Assessmeent, Nursing Diagnosis, Planning Nursing Care, Implementing Nursing Care, Evaluation, Communication, Documentation. There are a few others but the bulk comes from those I've listed. Each program per campus is conducted diff, so I'm just giving you tips from a central campus students point of view. That's basically all I can think of at the moment. I'm actually studying at the moment and took time to help those who will be in my shoes sooner than later. Good luck to all of you! And God Bless.
Thanks a mil for the info.
thanks for the info!! I'm ordering the book right now will get it Monday so I can start getting in my reading as i tend to dose of mid way lol but seriously seems like the fundamentals is the for sure book so I'll get that one early and get a jump start. I'm not worried about theory I'm terrified for clinicals! I am making a large humble pie and I am going to have a few slices because I know it will take humility to make it through. I'm scared of being yelled at or looking stupid if I mess something up and I refuse to have pride or ego affect my performance. Thanks in advance for any suggestions of surviving clinicals :)
The one and suggestion/advice I could give you about "surviving" clinicals is to do any and everything your clinical professor tells you to do. Never be late. There are zero excuses for tardiness. Just follow directions and you will be just fine.
If anyone is still in need of CPR BLS for healthcare professionals.
Just completed my CPR program at Paramount Training.
Its 49.00 and its AHA CPR for Healthcare Provider (exactly whats needed for program)
no book is needed to buy or equipment
Instructor Jeff was great made time very enjoyable.
I believe they have an office in West Palm Beach but I went to the location Dania Beach
Tuesday session was at 6pm
Saturday session in the morning
Oh and I found out about the program from another thread on this forum
give them a cal 954-921-9577 or google them, but the program is what we need
Congrats everyone! I'll see you guys at the April 8th 1pm orientation. Any definite answer on the textbook required? I'm hoping to go to south, if that matters...
perry&potter fundamentals of nursing is the one book for sure that we will need, from all the previous blogs and last students I hear it's best to purchase as soon as possible to catch up on the reading as it is a lot, I've heard about 5 chapters the first exam
How are all your future nurses doing? I'm relaxing and working and looking forward to the orientation. I am thinking about the next thing that we will be obsessing about and that's which campus we will all end up at and how and when to register for classes lol. I am using past forums as a guideline to where we will end up. How was everyone's weekend? Any book purchases completed? I am thinking on my day off to get the physical done!

Even though they took so long to inform us that we were accepted, I am now more anxious ! I can't relax! Now I'm waiting for the orientation and to get started ! I just purchased my books. Based off the previous posts I purchased fundamentals of nursing and clinical nursing skills by potter. Total came out to $187 And just in case it's not the right book there's a 21 day return (; I'm not sure how the campus choosing works. I always thought that they sent us an email from the campus we were chosen by. I'm hoping for north. Haven't heard anything bad about it and it's a 2 min drive for me.
