Broward College Nursing May 2014

Published

Hey there! This is a tread for anyone trying to get into the May nursing program in Broward College. Have you guys completed everything we need?

I still have to take my HESI and I am half way done with the Health Core class. I am so nervous. I am still not completely sure on how BC does the admission criteria, but I have high hopes.

Leave anything below. Lets help each other out :)

Hi, I've been reading this feed for a while but only now made an account! I got my email this morning but have yet to take any of the additional classes(CPR, HIV, ETC.) I just looked up the cpr class and the only available one is Saturday May 10th, is that too close to our starting date for it to count? I don't want to sign up for it somewhere besides BC in case it doesn't register the same.

Also CONGRATS TO EVERYONE! Can't wait to get started (:

Check with BC to see if you could do it at other institutions.

Hey guys I did BLS, HIV and all the others in 2012 do I have to do them over or renew them I did them at a different institution not BC.

Shelly2014 youll probably def, have to retake CPR, the others im not sure about, but to be safe, id just do them again

After reading the May 2013 forum(which was like a soap opera at times lol) I'm wondering if I'm too relaxed after finding out lol. Some people were buying books and ordering watches and uniforms well in advance. I think I'm going to start looking at the prices of stuff now because I am a self pay student so I need to know what I am getting myself into financially. One student mentioned that she spent about $1200 for all the required books and uniforms at the bookstore, if that's the case I'm in a trouble lol. I have a great job as a live in home health aid on the weekends so I won't have to quit work just my life otherwise. Now that we know where we stand what is everyone doing to prepare? Family, schedules, quitting jobs? Or boyfriends/girlfriends lol.

This is the same struggle I'm having. I been reading and reading these posts. Driving myself crazy!!! Have always paid for my classes out of pocket and now I'm quitting my job so I want to take a loan for the program to use what I've saved for bills or what not. But I have no idea where to start! I've always known I wanted to go back to school and worked 2 jobs to be able to save. Social life, I'm expecting to not have one. Relationship wise I have to be selfish and focus on what I need to do. Which shouldn't be too hard since I really only see my bf on the weekends(; But it's all so scary. The fear of the unknown. Currently waiting for the orientation to buy the book. Would still have over a month ahead to read. Main thing is never fall behind on reading !!

I started the bc nursing program January 2014 (Central Campus). I'm currently in process II and my brother has gotten accepted for the May 2014 program just as most of you. Just to help you guys out I'll periodically check up on here to answer any questions. For the most part, you will definitely need to have all of your ceu's done (I used ceufast.com), I took the basic life support(bls) class at broward college. They require that your cpr card be from the American Heart Association. Make sure your physicals and immunizations(shots) are up to date. You'll have to do 2 background checks. One online and one at a fingerprint place. Once you get all that stuff done, make sure it's in the correct order that the Medical dept wants it in. As of now I've only really used the Perry and Potter eighth edition and clinical skills Perry and Potter. You won't really get your reading list until your professor posts it up on D2l within the syllabus or directly emails it to you. A word of advice, READ! Read! and after your done reading, READ some more! My life has drastically changed from before I started the program til now. Make sure if you have a significant other, that you bring them to the pre admissions meeting! There is where they will understand how demanding this program is of your time. I made that mistake and it took some time before my gf actually understood that I couldn't spend nearly as much time with her than before. Uniforms, buy at least two sets just to be safe but one set will do. You should go ahead and also get a stethoscope and pen light. To those who want to read early: Some chapter you will want to focus on are: Health Assessment and Physical assessment, Vital signs, Patient Safety, Infection control, Nursing Assessmeent, Nursing Diagnosis, Planning Nursing Care, Implementing Nursing Care, Evaluation, Communication, Documentation. There are a few others but the bulk comes from those I've listed. Each program per campus is conducted diff, so I'm just giving you tips from a central campus students point of view. That's basically all I can think of at the moment. I'm actually studying at the moment and took time to help those who will be in my shoes sooner than later. Good luck to all of you! And God Bless.

I always buy my books online instead of the bookstore because of the price difference. I waiting on orientation so that I could do the documents. I going to buy a watch and the uniform sometimes next week or wait for orientation. I don't know. I borrowed the 7edition of the fundamental of nursing. I was looking at the clinical hours, and it's 12 hours! Is it really 12 hours or it depends?

Thank you!! We all could use help and any suggestions and advices are very much appreciated!

A typical school clinical day which you will be spending in the lab would be from 8am-the latest I've been 5:30p, but they usually have you there til 4:30p. A typical hospital clinical day would be from either 6a/7a-4p then spend an hour or so discussing your day. The 7th edition which I also used to read ahead is just as good as the 8th, but I'd suggest you get the 8th or most current edition to when you start the program. (Again I am a central campus student, so it might be different at south or north campus)

thanks for the info!! I'm ordering the book right now will get it Monday so I can start getting in my reading as i tend to dose of mid way lol but seriously seems like the fundamentals is the for sure book so I'll get that one early and get a jump start. I'm not worried about theory I'm terrified for clinicals! I am making a large humble pie and I am going to have a few slices because I know it will take humility to make it through. I'm scared of being yelled at or looking stupid if I mess something up and I refuse to have pride or ego affect my performance. Thanks in advance for any suggestions of surviving clinicals :)
