Hi I would like to apply for the generic May 2012 entry nursing program at Broward college. Any one else looking into applying for this program. Let's help each other out in this process. I know it's a bit early but I'm excited !!!:)
@ lovelyb09 - Positive thoughts! Haha... Here I am freaking out & telling you to be positive...but... it's all we can do!@ Joeane - Well that's nice that they gave that information. Which campus did you call or stop by to ask questions? There's a really nice Science Health admissions advisor at North campus that I've spoken with a couple of times before and I was thinking of stopping by to chat with. I'll definitely let you all know if I find out anything new. I'd love to know what the point cut off is for this term (which I doubt they will say).
I called the Central campus. That would be great to hear what the North Campus has to say. Every time I call the other campuses they always sound a little rushed and they always pass the calls. It could possibly be because it is the beginning of the year.
My status has not changed either, but I did go speak with one of the admissions advisors at North campus today. She is super nice and I have spoken with her several times before and was very helpful. My biggest concern when speaking with her was the point system and if there was a cut off. She said that there isn't because it depends on the pool of applicants. Last term they received about 700 applications and they did accept people with as low as 7 points. She did make it clear that a gpa over 3.0 is a solid place to stand. They are expecting to accept around 150 students for this coming term. I asked her about Central campus also accepting this term and that I heard it was only going to be around 90 students for both campuses. She said "No, not true" and that North is the largest campus and could accommodate a total of 150 students in the program, but Central will decide later on (closer to May) how many students they will take for the May term. Could be about 50 students or so, she wasn't sure. I asked her opinion as far as deferring till the fall goes... She said have you taken Micro? If you did or are taking it now than start in May. If you have not taken it than I would say start the program in the fall. She said of course that is her opinion, but most students do not have time to take it during the program. They usually take it before or after. And as far as it being more difficult goes....It's the same amount of work and 2 weeks shorter. If you manage your time right you will be fine.
She also informed me that she is hoping to have letters sent out as early as the end of this month. She said she was done processing her applications and if all goes well they will start re-reviewing all applications by tomorrow. She told me not to wait until Feb 15th to check my email or application status (Lord knows we check our status like 100 times a day) because some students do that when they could of had a head start with replying back to her and getting their paperwork together (my emails are forwarded to my phone, I'm impatient...lol). So whatever you do...DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO GET ALL THE REQUIRED DOCS IN TO THEM!!! Also, her best advice about the program overall and what she really stressed was learning time management. She has 2 friends in the program that both of them had to retrack because they focused too much of their time on Pharmacology and the Math class and failed Process 1. She explained to me that what makes it worse is that not only do you have to retrack, but sometimes they don't have room for the students who need to retake those courses. So 1 of her friends ended up having to sit out 1 semester because there was no room to put her back into the program for Process 2 after she passed Process 1. I also asked her how it works if your status changes to alternate. She explained that once she received confirmation from those who have been accepted into the program and receives their paperwork she will see who deferred, who didn't provide the necessary documents, or who didn't respond or who declined. Then those seats are offered to those on the alternate list. One thing I did forget to ask her about was the HESI. Sorry!
Hope this helps with answering some questions and just know that SOON we will be finding out if we were accepted!!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US!!!!!
Very good information...Also, I'm very curious to know if there is an expiration date as to when a course was taken because I took Chemistry back in Spring-2005. I checked and rechecked if the site mentions anything about how long ago a course was taken, but I was not able to find anything in that nature. If you all know about course expiration, please let me know. I wish I live near the school to go and ask questions, but I am further North . Thanks.
@ Juliansmom - I am not a 100% sure but I have heard that your science courses need to completed within 10 years (I'm assuming within the application time frame you are applying for). Again you would have to call and double check that.
@ Lovelyb - I was definitely happy to hear that there wasn't a ”cut off” too. I really think we all have a good shot! And the wait continues.... Lol
Hello everybody. It's good to hear from all of you. I got some great information from this thread. I applied on November 1st 2011 and have been waiting for a response ever since. I'm glad it's coming soon. I wasn't able to take micro biology this semester because the classes that can accommodate my work schedule was not available. It’s not going to stop me from taking the May program if I get accepted.
I have 10 points for my GPA. I would have had 11 points if I was a Broward resident, but because I live on the south side of county line road I'm consider Miami Dade. It's funny that all I have to do is walk across the street and I am considered in Broward County. I did pretty good on my HESI on all the subjects. My average score was 92%. I hope this is enough to get me in.
Now that it's getting close to our applications getting reviewed, I'm getting pretty nervous.
