I dunno. When I was taking A&P II, my advisor said that when I'm turning in my application to put "online" because there is a shorter waiting list. But I was also told that you make your final decision at the orientation.

thank you bumblebeern.....let me ask you guys something how bad is that i didnt take microbiology yet...i think we get 1/2 of the summer next year off you think i can take it then or after the program is done ?

congratulations! i'm just finishing up process i this week. i haven't taken micro yet either. i'm also going to take in in the summer. i'm not worrying about it. you can do it then.

yes you can take it then. it's better than taking it during the regular nursing classes, just because there is so much reading to do for nursing.... and micro you have a lot to memorize for those tests.

also- the last class trends, is very easy, so you can take it then too, but it's better to take it before then so when you go and apply for graduation, you don't have anything pending but trends.

JTweety,

Congratulations to you too!!! I'm very happy to be starting the program in May--Cannot wait! I've been reading the fundamentals book a little, but not as much as I'd like--I'm only on the 3rd chapter. Time to get more serious this week with the program so quickly approaching.

Up until this point I had not consider the on-line program, though I suppose I should find out more about it before throwing it to the wind. Hopefully they will address all of details at the pre-admission session on the 4th.

Best wishes to you!

Congrats on gettin into the program. It's a good thing that you've taken the initiative to start reading, but you'll soon find out that the chapter that you will be tested on is Ch. 33 Physical Assessment in the Perry Potter book (7th ed.). That chapter alone prob will take you some time to soak all in but give you a VERY GOOD head start. Don't waste your time reading those first few chapters. You MAY have 1 or 2 test questions on it. If you finish Ch. 33 and have time start reading Ch. 32 Vital Signs.

Awesome! Thanks ShesCoolie.

I attended the pre-admission (quite a few deferring seats) session this morning where they provided us with what I'll call a "Welcome" letter and there it suggests we read the Vital Signs chapter ahead of time so it's great to hear from current students of any other information/tips that may help. I appreciate that!

Any tips on how to study effectively (especially for tests the next morning) following long days of clinicals???

ps, During the meeting they enlightened (lol) us that classes/clinicals and studying will take 100hr/wk and this will give us an average of a "C". Are you doing this 100hr/wk???

Is this the norm from what you've seen in your class or for yourself? I don't mind contributing however many hours it takes to do well. Guess I'm hoping that 100 hours each week will give me better than a "C" average......

I dont know ANYBODY who studies 100 hr/wk even the most dedicated students. Don't get me wrong it is VERY important that you study everyday for as long as you need to feel comfortable with the material but I'd say more importantly is understanding the material and knowing WHAT to study. You will soon find that nursing is not a read and memorize thing but it's more like "in this situation, what should you as the nurse do". The whole chapter is important but what they want to know is what the nurse is supposed to do. As far as tests the next morning following clinicals, that never happens. Your schedule will always be M, T, F with T being clinical or M, W, F with W being clinical therefore you will always have a free day before your test. Finding time to study for Pharm was kinda hard for me. Pharm is an EASY A, but I'd often put off studying for it because I felt Process tests had much more material to cover. Also if you take a T clinical you might find it hard to got to class on Monday from 9-12, 1-3 and then go straight home to prepare for clinicals the next morning at 6:30am. I HATED Tuesday clinicals and will never choose Tuesday again if I can help it! lol :twocents:

I too was at the meeting last week. I thought they would at least have punch and cookies, LOL. and find it hard to believe that it will take 100 hours to earn a C. If we can read fast, take smart notes, and know how to manage time, we should be able to handle it in less than 100 hours per week. But who knows...

As for me, I had to defer to fall. I got in a car accident a few weeks ago and it left me injured. I would not be able to pass physical honestly because I now have low back, neck, right shoulder and right knee issues. I can't lift jack squat and need MRI and therapy. I really hope this does not affect my entire career plans. I have been wanting to do this for a long time, and it took a lot of hard work just to get into the program.

VERY bummed.......

If its any consolation, I did WAY less than 100 hrs and earned a B in Process 1 and missed a B by 2 pts in process 2. I think I did about maybe 20hrs a week on avg give or take, not including lecture time for process 1 and 2 (less for GIGU). And for pharm, I studied the day of the tests for an hour or two right before the test and I got a B. If anyone studies 100hrs a week, they should be getting A's lol

I will say, though, you may have to put in a few more hours with it being summer semester and the classes only being 6 weeks instead of 8.

Sorry to hear about your accident Dawn Sue. Hope you feel better soon.

I have a question for the drug test, background check, and fingerprint do you pay up front or is it added to your BC account as an obligation ?
