Broward College hopeful for May 2013 Nursing Program

Published

I know there is a lot of confusion going around with the new requirements for the BC nursing program so I wanted to start a thread for those of us finishing prerequisites and applying in January. I'm in the Core class now, but other than that I'm finished with everything else and getting very excited to start next year!

Has anyone tried getting an e textbook from the bookstore? I'm just wondering if they're available yet before I drive all the way down there. Thanks. :)

I don't understand what's the big deal, if someone says they don't want to take the shot, then it is what it is, I don't understand why some of you are concerning yourself and worrying about others. If you think it's what needs to be done then do it other wise let everyone else do what they what.... Just saying

I think I can clarify this......Hospitals REQUIRE flu shots and many of them have made it mandatory. You will be denied clinical if you do not comply. Nurses have been fired from their positions for refusing or have been forced to wear masks when in contact with the patients. NOt taking the flu shot can be your denial to clinical and dismissal from the program.

We have an entire forum on this subject.....Pandemic Flu

I think we all are trying to be helpful and share information. I wish you all good luck on your nursing journey.

All of the books are there. As to how many they have now, I don't know.

North or south? What about the uniforms?

Hey guys! I am new to this website and I decided to write a post on here because I am applying to the bc nursing program for august and then if I don't get in for the next one. I was wondering if you guys could help me with some questions I have about the application process. I have finished all my prerequisites, passed the HESI, and taken the HCP class. I believe all I have left to do is meet with an advisor and then apply? Is that correct? And where can I find the application? When I went to North Campus the lady gave me a paper called the "health sciences limited access application" is that the only thing I need to fill out? And do I need to meet with a nursing advisor or any one? Sorry for all the questions, I go to a college in Fort Myers and whenever I call BC no one can ever help me! :(

Jello luckiduck807!!

After you have taken your HESI and passed you fill out the Limited Access Application. From then on I'd take CE courses as a head start before they start accepting students but once you apply all you do is wait. Good luck to you! :)

Thanks for writing back! I appreciate it! What are CE courses? And okay that's good to hear! I'm going to turn it in on Monday when I go home for the weekend! Do I need to turn in the HESI paper with the application?

Central was where I went.

Hi, welcome, and best of luck. I do not recommend taking the continuing education courses until after you've been accepted. They are only good for 2 years so if you take them early then you'll have to retake while in the program. You do need to turn in the HESI scores with your Limited Access Application. Basically you fill out the form, bring it and your HESI scores to admissions on central or north campus, hand it in, they enter some info, and you wait, and wait, and wait. Also they don't typically make a decision until 30 days after the application deadline. Which for our group was literally 30 days after. You can check you status through your myBC account by clicking on limited application status. Good luck!! Fall is very competitive.

Thank you. Did they have a good variety of uniforms? I'm going over to south tomorrow.

Why would you tell her to not take CE courses? She'd have to take them and it's better to be safe than sorry.

If you take CE courses you'll be doing four to six hours per course before beginning the program as opposed to doing two hour renewals. Either way you'll have to renew them as long as you're a nurse. It's your choice. :)
