Broward College hopeful for May 2013 Nursing Program

Published

I know there is a lot of confusion going around with the new requirements for the BC nursing program so I wanted to start a thread for those of us finishing prerequisites and applying in January. I'm in the Core class now, but other than that I'm finished with everything else and getting very excited to start next year!

@Stacie 29. I took my CEU's last year May when I thought I going into the program. My CEU's are good for 4 years as stated on the certificate. I took all of them through Broward College. The only that won't last for 2 yrs is CPR. Just double check with the nursing department as things do change. Oh about the uniforms you can start out with 2, however I recommend buying the bottoms at UA if possible the UA scrubs fit better and have the pockets on the side (cheaper). You can purchase the tops at school store. That's just my 2 cents. Look for coupons as well. I hope that helps.

Thank you for the info.

Just purchased books and uniforms. In case anyone is wondering it came out to around $1200. That's not including the price of the Perry & Potter book and workbook as I already had those.

Hi

Did you just buy all the books on the bookstore list? Or how did you know what would be needed?I was going to start looking for them online from the list on the broward bookstore list, but I didn't want to waste money on stuff we might not need.

Not sure which campus u are going to, but as per some of the professor's notes, and a prior student, u may not have to purchase all of them. I myself am going to wait until orientation just to be sure.

Did u buy all of them from the list???

I did not buy all of the books, almost all of them though. I am going to keep them wrapped until class begins in case I need to return any. South had an orientation packet you must buy and in the packet is the list of required books. The people in the bookstore wouldn't even go by my schedule as they said the required books are in that packet. And went by that.

Oh . Did u buy the backpack thing?

Just got back from the bookstore. I got the monster Perry and Potter and three study guides that were recommended. Someone just mentioned yet another study guide. The most consistent advice I hear is "I wish I would have started using the study guide right away." I think I should have bought the math book, too, but I think I have enough for plenty of studying now including the notes that are already available online. As others have mentioned, I also would like to see what they say at orientation (one week away).

I also killed the Micro class and finished up the semester. I thought I was skating by with the skin of my teeth with a low A and I ended up with a 98 average. So glad that's done....or maybe I speak to soon. I do feel mentally exhausted and wondering if I need a longer break. I'm already feeling overwhelmed more than excited. So, team BC Nursing North campus Summer 2013, here we go.....

Are you going to North?

Deivito- I'm going to south

KCOOPS- I did only because I'm paying with my financial aid

I will be attending BC for my pre-reqs this fall and I'm not sure which classes I should take the first semester? And is college advisors any good?

I recommend speaking to an advisor. They can help you plan out what to take and when. Are you planning to go into nursing? Best of luck on your endeavors!
