:heartbeat:nurse:
So yep, I took my physical today and it was NO BIG DEAL, just like everyone was saying:) Although I weighed 94 lbs and no one raised even so much as an eyebrow or said anything, not a nurse or the doctor. I couldn't get my immunization results from the pediatrician's office in time, so I'm getting them tommorrow morning; though by then, will it even matter? Because won't the titers for everything ultimately say what shots I need or don't need? They DID give me the PPD immunization today. The bubble went away in literally almost twenty minutes- and felt like a mosquito bite, not the awful shot I imagined from my childhood!
What I noticed, and was wondering, is about the Hep B immunizations- if you haven't had them, and need all 3, the papers say you must have them completed before starting clinicals at the hospital...which start the second 8 weeks of school, if I'm thinking correctly. And I asked the nurse about how long the set of immunizations take, and she said about six months. Which we...don't have. So how would we go about doing that- I mean, there's no way, even if we had gone the day after Orientation and gotten the titers, and then soon gotten the first shot, that all 3 would be done before the first clinical day in hospital. So confused...
I think tomorrow I'm going to do the drug testing, if I can get to Quest early enough, I heard somewhere they only do testing until 2 or 3? And to whoever said you don't get the results of that back, I thought you NEED the results of the drug testing for your portfolio??
Today I also went and got fingerprinted and Level II background checked, where they just give you a payment receipt and do all the rest of the sending to BC themselves. Yay!
I should get the titer results back in about 2 or so days, my dr's office said. They don't offer any immunizations, so I have to figure out somewhere to go that does- and that also accepts Medicaid. I think I'll try Minute Clinic at CVS and Walgreens, whatever their clinic is.
I'm also planning on perhaps tomorrow or next day going to the bookstore and getting the prices of the books we need as they charge on campus, and then finding the lowest they sell for online. :) I'll let you guys know what I find!
I do have an old copy, 6th edition, of Fundamentals (Perry Potter) if anyone wants to buy that from me, just PM me. I also have the Clinical book (Perry Potter) 6th edition that goes with it and is just as thick that I'll sell too.
Did hear back from someone official at Central about CEUFAST, the Infection Control and Barrier Precautions IS the class to take instead of OSHA.
Anyone turn their folder in yet?
The Nursing Dept knows that the Hepatitis shots are a series of shots. As long as u have the first one done and go back when u need to get the remaining 2, u should not have a problem. Make sure once u get the second one give them a copy ( do the same with 3rd shot) so u won't have any hassels with them. Also the infection control and barrier precautions is the same as the OSHA/Hepatitis.

Quest will send the drug test results to BC, all we need to turn in is the original of the white copy that Quest gave back to us.
Also, just an FYI, I was able to get all the required textbooks, as well as one or two that are not required for about $600. I believe the total for all the books new from the bookstore on campus was over $900. Also, I mentioned in a previous post, Amazon.com has a student membership which allows free two day shipping on everything for a year.
Oops, posted this on the general Jan 2011 page instead of here. Anyway, what book are we using for Pharm, Lilley (the one off of the North list) or the one off of the South list (I can't remember the name for that one right now.) I haven't been to the bookstore yet, but I'm going tomorrow or the next day to price check.
I just re-checked my schedule, because I'm going to e-mail Professor K, our Process I teacher, and see if I can get our Syllabus by any chance, to see what we should start studying for the first test- I want to get the book early and study early. Actually, I want to get a few books early- Fundamentals by Perry-Potter, Dosage Calculations, Fundamentals Success, and our Pharm books. If anyone from a past semester has her syllabus and can PM it to me, that'd be great!
So i went into my BC email and found this email Professor K sent us for Process 1 for our reading this is what it says:
First Day Theory Assignment
Read Perry and Potter 7th edition, Chapters 1 to 6 for the first day of class. All powerpoints are listed under the home page in Blackboard.
Hope this helps!!! Start reading!!!
hi everyone! i know this is way off topic for here, but i am attending broward college central campus in jan and I'm moving down south from west palm beach. i'm looking for a roommate around my age ( i'm 20, and it would be cool if they were in the nursing program too so thats why im posting it here) so if you or anyone you know needs a room please let me know!! thanks
I got the 4th edition.
Okay I know the book list says 4th ed. but when I was in bookstore they sell the 5th ed. So I didn't know which one to get. I feel like it won't matter because it's recommended not required. I found the 4th ed for .19 cents plus 3.99 shipping so 4th ed. sounds real good right now. =)
Everyone that's been drug tested just got back the white copy of their sheet, right? That's all we have to turn in?? No results or anything...?? I'm confused. Because I went today and they said that's all I'd get and all I'd need.
Tomorrow I go to show my primary doctor the PPD results and hopefully get the titer results back. Then I'll know what immunizations I should need- I got my pediatrician immunization records today, too, so I think I should only need one immunization.
In other news, went to the bookstore today and the prices at the bookstore are WAY higher than anything that can be found online. Also, we buy the Lilley Pharmacology textbook, not the one on the South campus textbook list.
Hey guys, I'm a bit confused about the Dosage calculations textbook we need for our math class. There are two versions- just the regular Dosage Calculations that you can find up to the 8th edition, and then there's the Dosage Calculations: A Ratio and Proportion Approach, 3rd Edition. I know the North campus booklist says to get the ratio and proportion approach one, but I want to know which one everyone else got (if others got one), or if there are any students who are or have used this book, which book you use. :) Thanks !
