lets all communicate, get organized, share ideas, and support one another!

:yeah::heartbeat:nurse:

Are you talking about the mental ward on us1 north of 595? If so, that is not the place you think it is. It's a crappy bar that I used to bartend at. :) it's closed too, thankfully.

Ahh...yeah, I think that WAS the place I was referring to. Well, hey, it would be an interesting name for a nursing uniform shop. Lol.

I just re-checked my schedule, because I'm going to e-mail Professor K, our Process I teacher, and see if I can get our Syllabus by any chance, to see what we should start studying for the first test- I want to get the book early and study early. Actually, I want to get a few books early- Fundamentals by Perry-Potter, Dosage Calculations, Fundamentals Success, and our Pharm books. If anyone from a past semester has her syllabus and can PM it to me, that'd be great!

But what I realized, and does anyone else realize this, our first class day is NOT January 6th, but January 7th! So Orientation is the day BEFORE classes start. I really thought classes started on the 6th- did they change it to the seventh or something? Or have I just...misread it the whole time? Lol.

It still sucks that Orientation is only a day before classes-but at least it's not the same day. Then we'd all be very tired as WELL as confused.

On the first page of this thread, it says we do not need the book for Pharm if taking Prof. K, he just uses his Powerpoint slides. I heard the same goes for math. I have all my textbooks in hand already. Kind of an intimidating pile, but the texts are very interesting. I love the clinical companions, they seem like they are going to come in very handy.

I'm only taking Micro right now, so if you do get your hands on a syllabus, PLEASE POST it. I'm dying to get started on the reading!

Professor K for Pharm, I think, is either at a different campus, or at least not the teacher I'm signed up with. My teacher's last name beings with an L and is a woman. The math book I personally want, because math is my hardest subject area, and our class is only 4 weeks long, whereas we take math quizzes at the beginning of every clinical- and if we miss more than one question, we have to retake the quiz; if we fail it again, we're dropped from the clinical- aka, a semester behind. So I want to ALWAYS be 110% on my math. :)

Yup I'm taking him. He also teaches at North. Heard he's good :)

I've heard that Professor K is one of the best teachers at Broward, he's supposed to be awesome. I wanted to have Thursdays off from class but took his Thursday class anyway because I heard so many good things about him.

I'm getting my physical done tomorrow at 2:15 at my pcp. I just wish it were all over with already! I'm mostly nervous they won't have their office together enough to have everything I need by the deadline..We shall see.

No one has answered this yet, but is the drug test a urine or a blood test? I'm hoping urine, I just really don't like needles. :/ And do you get your results right then, or how long do you have to wait for them-??

Also, same thing with the 'titers'- I know it's different for all doctors offices, but did they tell you that day, oh you'll need these immunizations ? Or let you know a few days later after the blood was read from the lab?

-Question AGAIN. It seems like we need to get the immunizations done by the same doctor who does our physical (unless they were done before), is that right? Or can we go somewhere else for them?

By the way, Professor K (Nursing Process), did e-mail me back about the syllabus, but said she doesn't send it ahead of time, but does send an e-mail out three weeks before school starts. She suggested I start reading chapters 1-6 in the Perry Potter Fundamentals book; she also said, ''please buy the book Test Success''; apparently it's a key part of doing well in her class and helps one with how to think critically, which is needed for nursing exams.

I wonder if our first exam is REALLY going to be on twelve chapters, though. I read that somewhere on here. That just sounds...torturous. Anyway, if anyone else, another former student of hers, has a syllabus, could you please PM it to me? Thank you:)

The drug test is a urine test and you will not receive the results. The school gets those. You just get the white copy from the triplicate you fill out. As for the titers, they draw the blood and then it is sent to a lab to be tested for immunity. This took about a week for me to get the results. You can get immunized by any doctor, you just need them to sign off on your paperwork. It doesn't need to all be done by the same physician.

I have already started reading the Test Success book. It seems like it will be very helpful. It's full of practice tests and analysis of all the questions and answers...why some answers are wrong, why other choices are the best choice, and I imagine it's geared to helping us ultimately do well in nursing school AND pass the NCLEX. I got it used in excellent condition from Amazon for less than $20. Seems like a sound investment.

Thanks alisonelizabeth for giving us this info, now we all don't have to e-mail K and bug her. You rock!:yeah:
