Hi guys, is anyone else working towards starting the nursing program at BC in August 2011? I am working on my last pre-reqs this semester (spring 11) and then apply and hopefully get accepted for the fall semester. I just took and passed the hesi exam last night and that is one big load off my back. I also started my hep shots since it takes 3 rounds of shots and a total of 6 months to be fully immunized. I want to have all of my ducks in order to start the program. I am undecided whether to go to south or central campus. Any advice?
I am planning on holding off on purchasing the Math and Pharm book. I've been hearing from others who's already in the Prog that we won't need them and since am paying for this Nursing Program out of pocket I don't want to make any unnessecary purchases.
UGH I am paying out of pocket as well. I heard about a program with workforce one that pays for schooling. I went to their website and they do pay for the nursing program at broward however I am sure it will be a headache getting approved (couldnt even reach these people on the phone) and for sure it would not be done in time for this semester.
To anyone who purchased their scrubs already would you mind telling how much the costs. Thanks.
Oh YES!!!!! am glad you asked. I would advise you guys to start getting atleast a pair of scrubs from NOW!!! The bookstore runs out of sizes very quickly. I went to the North Bookstore today and they were basically out of alot of sizes. I had to then call the central campus and there I was able to get myself a Med size set. Tops-$20, Pants-$15 & Jackets $25.
Reading through some of the past threads I saw that some people did their medical screening for the nursing program at a place called Doctors 365 in plantation. I googled it (google is my best friend) and their website has a price list (Yay for upfront prices!). It seems pretty cheap and they actually list discount prices for broward students. For some reason they changed the name of BC to Broward County College...LOL. Anyway I doubt my insurance will pay for the screening since it is not "medically necessary" so I'll will probably end up going there.

I would advice you to go to Workforce in person. Even if you were to get the grant from workforce after the first semester BC will refund the monies you already paid in cash and apply the grant monies them. I know this for a fact because I was approve for the Workforce grant back in 2009 however the grant monies I have left is now only enough to cover half the cost of BC since I already used some of the money for other courses.
I was just so happy that when I sopke to my Workforce Counselor today she stated I have 3k left that can be applied to BC and I immediately started THANKING GOD!!!!! He is such an on time God in my life....:monkeydance:

When you want something bad you have to make your presentation "IN PERSON" :anpom:
Hey I was wondering if you are also planning on buying the books for Pharm and Math.
I am going to wait before purchasing those books. Some professors go straight off their power points. I now bought 7 books :) I am going to buy the Perry Potter bundle at the bookstore together with the modules and Lab supply kit.
It is becoming very real now :)
I have never heard of workforce. What is it and how can I apply? Or better said, where can I apply? I am also paying out of pocket and OUCH!! Is there a website I could get info? Thank you!
Here is the website http://www.wf1broward.com/ . When you go to that website select the WIA Money for Training section. They provide a $6,000 grant for programs on their approved list. broward's nursing is one of them. You have to go into one of their offices for an orientation and they will give you information on there programs and an application to take home and complete. They require you to make and appointment to come back later with the app completed and required documents.
I think you can do the orientation online and also print out the application online and then call and make the appointment to bring the completed app and documents into the office.
I went in today for the orientation at the Oakland park office and before leaving I scheduled the appointment to bring the completed app back. The earliest date the had was for Aug. 4.
