Hello!!! Just wondering if anyone else has applied for August 2010 yet? :)
there must be something terribly off with the applications for them to do this... its still a "business" they still want to pick and choose they arent going to accept everyone because they dont have enough applicants i suppose ...
They should definitely give extra points out ...dont know how many ...
right!... but u see they have left themselves with no choice but to cancel the hesi requirement... because with only a hundred odd something applications in and maybe 200 something more seats to fill, they cant just leave those seats empty. if they do that it will be like their delaying people from completing nursing when theres spots available to house more students and that just wouldn't be right.. and since they need more spots filled and the hesi is obviously the hidden crutch thats preventing people from applying they have no other option but to get rid of it... they thought they were doing the right thing by using this exam but now its backfiring on them and all of a sudden meetings are having to be held to discuss their mistakes..... i was actually for implementing this test because i figured it would weed out all the people who just schemed their way through the prereqs by taking "easy" professors who would just give them the A who did not actually work to get it, because most of the time these types of students are the ones who cannot pass basic skills test like the hesi... and quite frankly it kinda saves them the hassle because if you can't succeed on something like the hesi, then nursing school will be utter hell.
I wonder if they didn't jump the gun on this. There are plenty of people who thought they would have to wait and apply for the January program but when BC extended the deadline those people decided to take their last prereqs this summer. BC should have waited to decide this HESI thing until after the end of Summer I. I would bet they get more applications after this semester ends. I'm secretly hoping most people won't hear about them cancelling the HESI requirement. It's completely unfair that other students' lack of planning/failure overrides my preparation and accomplishment.
From BC's facebook page:
Applicants seeking admission to the Nursing program for Fall 2010-11 must meet all published admission requirements, including the (5) subject areas of the HESI. Meeting criteria for selection does not guarantee admission to the Nursing program. Students who have taken the HESI regardless of score can submit their application. Submission of application materials does not guarantee admission into the program.
So it looks like they are requiring the HESI, but that the scores don't matter.

this really is not fair. i think all the people who turned in their apps on time and passed the hesi should automatically have preference of getting accepted just for meeting all the requirements. because not only did studying for this exam cut into our personal time, but it also cut into our wallets by having to pay just to take the exam and then having to pay for whatever study materials were required. this really speaks on the professionalism of these people, they should have known EXACTLY what they wanted to do with the test before implementing it and should have been prepared for the fact that not everyone was going to pass it. i feel like the closer we all get to getting into the program the more they throw at us, just making it much more complicated and unfair.
I hope they get their stuff together, because this is making them look really bad!
