Did anyone already turn in there applications for Fall 2009 @ B.C.? because I am turning mine in next week before the deadline and now I have to wait AGAIN and keep continually looking at my e-mail and the myBC account for the Limited Access Program everyday hopefully I get in THIS TIME being my 3rd time
Thank you...its all clear now....7 month difference..
Suny,
Are you starting in Jan 2010? have you gotten your letter yet?
The only thing left is pray that anyone that meet the cut off for Mar-May get exemt from the HEPI Test...
What time does the Day Program Start? and how many days a week?
Do people really work in the program? everyone i know that is an RD does not work while in the program.,
I wanted to go to Central or South.. which ine is better? and is BCC that bad...i hear horr stories on this forum..
I have not received my letter yet. None of my friends have either. I'm not expecting anything until after Monday. I'm still trying to figure things out for starting in Aug or deferring to Jan. It's looking like Jan, though.
The lecture classes are M and F from 9-12. Clinicals are T, W, or Th from like 6:30-something, lol. First semester you will have Pharm, which at North Campus its on M from 5-7 (this runs then entire 16 weeks), and Math on F from 1-4 or 5 (this is only about 4 or 5 wks). Then after the first semester its just lecture and clinicals. You will only be in class on M and F from 9-12. The clinicals will vary from rotation to rotation.
I don't know which is better, but I've read on this forum the order from best to worst is North, South, Central. Who knows. I think no matter where you go, its going to be tough and some of the professors are going to be hard to deal with.
Who is the right person to talk to inregards to the entry test? The LPN tease was was hard.. i passed it but i just made the 40% percentile.. i wonder if the HEPI will be a percentile or an individual percentage..
So i guess there is no reason to rush and take Chemistry in
september since i can still make it if i take chm in Jan byt he cut off date...
I read that it does not matter if you turn in your paper the day before cut off as long as it is there.. Ithought it was better to get it in as early as you can cuz they will start from first come.. by looking at the GPA.. once they reach there number if students then they will do the tye breaker...
Not to scare you but i know several people at the BCC South campus in the program and it is hard...take time now to brush up on critical thinking skills, dosage calculations methods ie. dimensional analysis, ratio/proportion and most importantly anatomy.
I know someone who started this may and failed checkoff because she forgot to change her gloves when she was changing another aspect of the bed. someone else that I know who started in Jan with 90 students are now down to less than 45 due to failing out or retracking. I am not saying this to scrare you but to get you to realize that it is an intese program.
Pharm seems to be easier to take it at Central with Dr. Krav? who utilizes more powerpoints and notes than at South. Heads up, Med-surge seems to be very challenging and requires alot of studying.
The first test in Process one is usually 9 chapters of Potter and Perry so if you have to work and you want to get a heads up, get the book early and start reading
Good luck

not to scare you but i know several people at the bcc south campus in the program and it is hard...take time now to brush up on critical thinking skills, dosage calculations methods ie. dimensional analysis, ratio/proportion and most importantly anatomy. how would i get this information to start studying.. i am not working.. so i can start now... do they expect you to know this stuff before you get in..i know someone who started this may and failed checkoff because she forgot to change her gloves when she was changing another aspect of the bed. someone else that i know who started in jan with 90 students are now down to less than 45 due to failing out or retracking. i am not saying this to scrare you but to get you to realize that it is an intese program. what is check off??? oh yes i figure its an intense program.. my sister was a graduate from bcc nursing and my sons god mother. but this website.. give it to you like how it is.. i got more info from here than them lol!!!

What certifications do you have? HUN is nutrition, right? What is HLP? They will only exempt you if you took the core class some place else, or if you are already in the medical field, but certain jobs, like paramedic, medical assistant, CNA, but not like receptionist for a dr's office.
The best way to get info on the test would be to attend one of the pre-nursing information sessions. You can go to any campus, but you just have to find out when it is. There, they will go over everything about the program, and then you can ask questions. When I was at the last session, we were told about them wanting to implement the HESI. There are 9 parts to the test, but they only use 4 of them for admission (the reasoning behind making you take all 9 is that if you apply to another college, they may require more sections, so you might as well take it all, and its going to cost the same no matter if you take 1 section of 9). Then I think she said you had to get 75% on all the sections (I can't remember the exact percentage). Then I asked if they would look at the individual scores to determine admission, or are they just using it as a pass/fail thing where if you passed you would be considered, if you didn't, then you would not be considered, and she said they were planning on using it as pass/fail. But who knows, that could change.
No, it does not matter when you turn in your application. Admission is based on points only, which are mostly made up of your pre-req GPA. For instance, we are all waiting for our acceptance/denial letters right now when the deadline closed a month ago. People started turning in their applications 3 months ago. If it were first come, first served, the people who turned in their apps on March 1st would know if they were in already or not. They didn't even start processing apps until after the May 15. I also asked this at the pre-nursing session and was told that it doesn't matter, there is no advantage to turning it in early vs later.

Ok, you took ENC1101, so thats done. You took A&P 1, so thats done. You need CHM, which you are going to take, and A&P 2 which you are going to take, so thats taken care of. You're going to take micro, so you're set there. You need a writing humanities, but you took a humanities AND Enc1102, which it the writing credit, so thats set. You need a behavioral or social science. I don't know if your social environment class counts (it might, you'd have to check because I don't know all the classes that would fall under that category). If not, you need gen pysch, sociology, or developmental pysch or something like that.
And thanks to Honeybee for chiming in about the LPN transition program. It is 5 semesters then, and since every LPN transition program starts in May, they will graduate the following Dec. So you are looking at a 7 month difference in going RN or the LPN route. You will get out 7 months later as an LPN.
