Broward College applicants for Fall 2009

Published

Did anyone already turn in there applications for Fall 2009 @ B.C.? because I am turning mine in next week before the deadline and now I have to wait AGAIN and keep continually looking at my e-mail and the myBC account for the Limited Access Program everyday hopefully I get in THIS TIME being my 3rd time :yeah:

ceufast.com looks like a good deal i mean its 30 dollars and you can get any certification for a year...it beats paying like 300 dollars for all those course plus gas money cause each course is on a different date and they are all in central. the only one i would have to do at central is the cpr one.

let me ask you though the osha/tb/hepatitis is 6 hours according to broward...but on the website its only a total of 5 hours...i dont wanna do it and then they tell me im missing an hour....what should i do?

also thanks for the registration info for the nursing classes im gonna sign up the minute orientation is over...but actually when i applied for the program i put i would be starting this fall so even if i wanted to register for the certification (cae) courses i can't until monday (registration date for me for fall term) because i'm considered to be starting in the fall so thats why i was saying that i have to wait until monday to register.

this is what you need to take to complete the osha/tb/hepatitis on the ceufast websit:

hepatitis c 2 hours

infection control and berrier precautions 4 hours

tuberculosis 2 hours

i asked chinara in admissions who was the person who lead our orientation and she instructed me to take these to = the 6 hour course at broward.

Smiley- Oh I didn't realize you were a new student to Broward. That makes sense.

Fated- No I did NOT receive my email yet either. However, i have not heard anyone saying their orientation is Monday. So far, its July 9 at either 9am or 2pm. That's what I heard from friends and this forum. From what I've seen in the past BC has never told people they had to come to orientation just a few days after sending out the letters. They've always given them a little notice.

Posted below...

I was told at the pre-admission info sessions that you can do these anywhere as long as you had the provider's Florida Board of Nursing number, so they should accept this. I'm sure Leavingteaching will be around later to tell you for sure, but it looks like its fine.

Also, I did a search on CEU's website and there were no courses with BLS or CPR in it. There's no way for you to do the skills online since you have to be checked off by a provider. You can do tests online for CPR (I did mine online as part of my core class) but the skills must be in person.

This is all correct info (Sunray knows her stuff :wink2: ). I just want to point out that if you already have some of these CEUs completed, you can go to the CE Broker website to see if they are approved by the Florida Board of Nursing. I did mine through CEU Fast, Nursing Unlimited, and Elite. They were trying to give me a hard time with the ones from Elite. So I simply went on CE Broker and printed where it clearly stated this was an approved provider, along with their provider number. And they finally accepted it. I am a member of CE Broker, but I know you can do the CEU searches for free. And also, the CEU websites will usually tell you that they are approved and what their number is. So as long as you see it and can prove it, you should be fine.

As far as the CPR goes, Nursing Unlimited also has the written portion online, for both the renewal and the initial class. When I went to renew mine, there were a few people who did theirs online. So the instructor just tested them out first, before he even started our class. They were there for less than an hour.

Hope some of this info helps! Just adding my two cents since I went through this in April and May. :)

Smiley- you can also check with the local fire dept's to see if they offer the BLS class. I know Boca does it and I think Coral Springs, but I know thats too far for you. You can find their websites online and take a peek and see.

vonneg...did you do those 6 hours through that website?? if you did...did they accept it when you turned it in?? btw thanks for the info...it helps out sooo much!!

sunraygurl...yea i'm a new student...but what you said about the waiting until the orientation for them to tell us the day we can register for the classes still stands, right?? i just wanna make sure. i'm freaking out already...i'm gonna be worse when classes start, lol. for the cpr course i might just go to central and do it unless i find somewhere here in miami that meets the requirements.

honeybee723...thank you for all the info as well...im gonna look in to the other two sites you mentioned for the hiv/aids course so that i dont have to do it a central either.

everyone is sooo helpful thank you so much if not i would be completely lost right now.

Well, its after 4 now and since they close at 4 and will be closed tomorrow (Friday) I guess I'll be getting my email on Monday sometime. Oh well. I know I'm in, its just nice to be able to finally see "the letter" lol.

Sunraygurl, i suppose you didnt get your letter either right? From What i read on the forum there is a 8:00 orientation monday. does that sound right? cause what if we miss it?

No letter yet. Orientation is NOT Monday at 8. So far, everyone's letter have stated July 9th at either 9am or 2 pm. We will not miss it. ;)

Yes, smiley, no one can register for those classes until after orientation on the date they set., I promise! lol They have to go over everything with everyone and tell you what classes you need, etc. etc. Plus, my registration date (for non nursing classes) for fall was set for June 8th. I tried to register for a nursing class the other night, just to see, and it rejected me. So, no more worrying!! :)

I have another question...

for the CPR/BLS course it says 4-8 hours...does that mean that if the course is 5 hours its acceptable???

Nursingunlimited.com offers a the BLS course at Kendall Regional Hospital and this it what is says..."Upon successful completion a 2-year American Heart Association card will be issued along with a certificate for 5 contact hours"

Fated- you said you got a message saying "Accepted into Limited Access Program". My friend said she got the same thing, but she said something about having a second screen that just said Accepted. I only have one screen....I was wondering if you had one or two screens, too. I have no idea what she meant.
