Is it sad that I have a count down on my phone for when the first day of RN school starts?

Nope, a few of my classmates have a countdown til graduation! But don't forget to enjoy your summer! It goes too quickly and you will not have a break next summer. You get aprx. 10 days between summer and fall.

Last night I had a nightmare about RN school. I was sitting there waiting for class to start on the first day and all of a sudden this teacher said hand in all your papers... I was like huh?!? we had homework on the first day? And the people next to me are like yeah, it was on evolve... I was like OMG I haven't logged in yet, I don't remember my password! I started to cry then I woke up.

I think stress management is something I already need to work on heh... Sweetpea your soo right... I need to relax lol. :eek:

I'm graduating on May 12 from the program, here are a few things I'd wish I'd have done differently.

1. NOT purchased those horrible fitting scrubs at the embroidery place they send you to. Would have been more than worth the money to have gotten some that I felt comfortable in and paid the extra $25 for embroidery.

2. Not have purchased the book pack!!!!!! The only book I needed from it was the Lewis Med-Surg.

3. Bought the Saunders Comprehensive RN NCLEX study guide for the first day of first semester.

4. Had gotten a job as a tech at the hospital and in the department that I wanted to work in after graduation regardless of how difficult it was to arrange the work and school schedule. It will make your fourth semester so much better!

5. Realized from the get go that the instructors were people just like you and I.

Things I've read on here that differed from my experience:

1. We were allowed laptops in some of our classes. Foundations for sure and I can't remember which other ones.

2. You will have a buddy your first clinical day and after that, even if you do have 2 patients, you can't do anything but vitals and physical assessment. You are doing tech work, you have little to no responsibility so there is nothing at all to worry about. Second semester is when you give meds, start IV's(if there is an opportunity), run pumps, etc....

3. Instructors never had a problem with cell phones unless someone was being ridiculously and obviously distracted by theirs.

4. I've never heard of 4 clinical days a week unless you have a lame preceptor fourth semester or you are cramming for some reason to get them all done early. If you are in the class that begins first semester in the Spring, you will have clinical 3 days a week a couple of times in the summer.

Just relax and take it as it comes, be flexible and enjoy!

Did I hear maybe laptops!?!? *dances* I hope I get those teachers!!!

Im sad about those fitted scrubs, I am a big girl and fitted = bad. Maybe I should try them on before spending money.

*Questions* :nurse:

1. How many nursing programs are going on at once?

2. Do the teachers stick with one group or do we get a mix?

3. Any guesses on how much the book packs cost for the first semester?

Hobbits,

You'll probably have the same instructors that we had, a few of them allowed laptops. The scrubs at the scrubs store are not at all fitted, they are as boxy as anything. :)

There are usually 4 concurrent groups of students with the exception of Summer when there is not a new semester starting.

Most of the instructors teach all of the students. You will have a good variety!

The book pack was something like $750-800, plus an additional $80-100 for Koziers Foundations book, and another $30 for a Drug book. Second semester you will need a Pediatrics and Maternity textbook, and a Psych textbook.

I'd say hit up some past semester students to purchase textbooks, post a sign on the billboard in the skills lab hallway!

I am still taking prereq's and support classes (applying for Spring 2012) and I've had several dreams about it... the first one I remember needing to start an IV like wayyyyy before I was able to haha! Usually they're not really nightmares... its' probably just because I'm working full time and thinking about school in 99.9% of my free time :lol2:
