Brookhaven Fall 2020

Published

Hey everyone! I decided to start this forum because I am a current transferring Nursing student moving from AR to TX. I am in need of all the tea on the program and faculty. Please feel free to leave comments! I’m just trying to get all of my ducks in a row now. I hope to meet someone of you all along this journey!

Ugh this is so unfair...

Unfortunately we were never told LOL we just got emails with our acceptance letters!

Anybody apply to other programs?? I put all my eggs in the Brookhaven basket??

Hey guys! I’m sure y’all did great! I remember how nerve wrecking it was waiting for acceptance emails! what they don’t tell you is that they also interview students for re admittance every semester. Those who get a second chance. So spots may be more limited. Buuuuuut, y’all have gotten this far and deserve a HUGE round of applause!
I am a first semester and let me tell y’all it has been a roller coaster ride this semester thus far! And in the midst of all this, nursing school has been 10xs harder as we cant attend class and stuff! We don’t know how much longer all this will go on but we are all praying our daily classes can return to normal soon!

don't forget that Parkland has a contract with DCCCD students, if you are a PCT/MA/LVN etc etc pursuing a nursing career they pay for your schooling and then you have to make the minimum requirements and you can get in. But they require you to work while in school and sign a 5 year contract. So they take spots too.

thank you for that information! I had been working as a PCT for 2 years and when I got accepted into the program I actually quit my job at Presby hospital-Dallas . I know some need to work and I too have bills to pay, but I had been saving money for a long time for the reason that I knew I wouldn’t be able to work and go to school full time like before!! it’s just so much studying and hands on stuff. We have exams, readings, skills check offs, HESI exams, clinicals and care plans etc.. and that’s just off the top of my head.
I know a handful in my semester 1 class that still work because they have to and that’s totally understandable!! But I do know that they don’t do as good on certain things as they wish they could bc of their limited studying time etc. it just all depends honestly??‍♀️

I don't think there's such a program??

Oh, really? I haven’t heard of that program! I know Collin College does something similar, but no ones mentioned that to me at Brookhaven. Where can I find that info?!

Also, I know you’re trying to give us a heads up, but this just made my nerves worse ?

Parkland has a program similar to a "Grow Your Own RN"-type program that's through Brookhaven which allows them to work at Parkland and sign a contract which says they will work for Parkland in exchange for Parkland paying for them to go to school. It's similar to Methodist Dallas and HCA (not sure if that program is still around but it was a few years ago when I worked for them), which is through El Centro, however, the difference is that Methodist students do their clinicals in-house (separate from the others in El Centro's cohort).

How is the Tarrant application going for you? I was hoping to hear back from Brookhaven like Monday so I could see if I still needed to apply to Tarrant but hopefully tomorrow!
