Brookhaven Fall 2012

Published

Anyone here applying to Brookhaven's nursing program next month for their Fall 2012 admission?

I am..I need to take the HESI one more time in hopes of getting a higher score. The only support class that I do not have complete is End of Life so I hope with a higher HESI score and a good interview score I will have enough points to get in!

Oh I am not taking my pre-req classes at UTA. I am doing the pre-reqs through Brookhaven. Right now I am taking all online courses. At the beginning of this semester I took an 8 week course of English Comp 1302 and an 8 week course of History 1301 and now I am taking Nutrition and History 1302. I guess I could work ahead and take my history exam and nutrition exam that are both due later this week. That will definitely keep me busy lol

You go girl! If some reason its not in God's Plan for my husband to get in the program for fall I am going to have him see about getting a jump start on his pre req's for a BSN.

I liked nutrition, except when my instructor wouldn't accept my non-dairy diet plan because I'm lactose intolerant except for greek yogurt. One whole grade mark down!

Yeah it's a great idea to get started on pre-reqs for BSN. This is my first semester working on them so I still have a ways to go. To get into UTA's RN to BSN program I still need to take these courses:

Government 1

Government 2

Tech Writing

English Lit

Sociology

Statistics

College Algebra

I was thinking about taking these all (except for Stats and College Algebra) over May-mester, Summer 1 and Summer 2 but I'm not sure...For one, I don't have much money to pay out of pocket for 15 credit hours and two, if I do make it into the fall program I kind of want to take the summer off before jumping into the crazyness of first semester of nursing school ya know?

If I do take them this maymester and summer though then that will only leave me with College Algebra and Stats to complete which I think I will be able to do before I finish my ADN. That way I can go straight into the RN to BSN program without waiting....hmmm decisions decisions!!

I know right! There is so much to decide!

I personally would caution against cramming 15 credit hours into a summer semester, I have tried it many times before and realized that I had bitten off more than I could chew each time. I am taking gov 2301/2302, and art appreciation, all accelerated classes. The government classes are kicking my butt just because they are soooooo boring! If you think you can do it though go for it! I am going to try and get into my last 3 support classes this summer, but other than that I don't want to do too much if I actually get accepted, I would like to kick back before the mayhem begins.

Yeah I understand what you are saying..it is a big course load. How I have it laid out there it's not too bad.

My husband is also a HUGE History/Political buff (he has been helping me through the History courses) so he will be a big help with Government. Plus, last summer I took Micro and A&P2 at the same time and made it through okay. I think if I can survive that I can do anything haha!! hmm..I'm still deciding. Summer registration is tomorrow though so I will have to decide soon!

oh this waiting is killing me! I keep calling my husband asking him "have you gotten the email?" I think I am starting to annoy him.

Well we should know in the next 3 hours or so...this waiting is horrible but just think, after we find out we make it then we will anxiously wait to hear more info about books, success camps, etc. and then we will anxiously wait until success camp and then wait some more until the first day of class. Then wait some more until first day of clinicals..and on and on. It's a BIG waiting game! lol

Good luck to everyone- I am graduating next month from BHC and it has been one heck of a ride! A word of advice- if you don't get in, don't be hard on yourself. Focus on getting into a BSN program, because if you intend to work in DFW, you will need it. My class is having a VERY hard time finding jobs with our ADN, and Brookhaven isn't even allowed at many of the hospitals for clinical now, including Children's! The market is rough right now for the ADN, and though you may not have a hard time in the end, you will almost certainly be required to have a BSN to maintain employment. And for those who do get in to BHC, prepare yourself for disorganization and scheduling nightmares. Otherwise, it's a great program!

Can you give us some examples of the disorganization and schedule nightmares?

For sure this waiting game is killing me, and I keep praying and praying and just trying to be positive. My heart beat is going crazy, when ever I check my mail.

I know I wasn't the original poster about the scheduling nightmares, but to name a few...

Class days changing with little notice, having to do clinicals on a holiday that we were supposed to get off, clinical days being changed or added with little or no notice.

If you work or need to work it is best to have a flexible job that is okay with you taking off with little warning.
