Brookhaven College Spring 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I am hoping to be part of the Brookhaven College Spring 2017 Nursing Class and I want to start a new thread where other potential students can communicate with one another. I am almost done with my pre-requisites. Currently I am working on getting Chemistry and Ethics out of the way. I plan on taking nursing pathophysiology this summer if it is offered.

Any one have any suggestions on how to prepare for the HESI A2? I am also interested in any advice that can help me with my dosage class. I am very nervous about the dosage course since the test must be passed with a 90%. Good luck everyone!

I don't believe it's mandatory... I don't see that on the syllabus. I think it's more of a benefit incase you have any questions on the problems since it's all self taught.

That's what I assumed, but I hate assuming anything for these classes... the instructors are always so particular and they don't follow the whole theory about how "there are no stupid questions" if you know what I mean.

Hello! I'm a current second semester nursing student at Brookhaven so I can try my best to help with whatever it is you may need help with regarding questions you may have about the program and what to expect. To study for HESI I suggest using the HESI study book, and maybe a couple of supplemental books that have different practice questions. Dosage & calculations is almost identical to the practice tests that are posted on blackboard, but also know your conversions, I remember there being a question asking how many TBSP per 1/4 cup or ounce or something along those lines. I passed with a 99% as did all but maybe 4 people out of a group of probably 60+ with 3 different attempts, just don't overthink it.

Any other questions you may have, feel free to ask and I will do my best to get you an answer. Good luck!!

I'm so glad I came across this. I will also be applying for Spring 2017.

I completed all my pre-requisites and currently enrolled in Pharmacology and the Dosage Calculations (which I'm not too worried about).

Does anyone know how often the HESI Exam is administered or is it just on individual basis when you sign up with the Testing Center? I've been wondering about that particular aspect, especially seeing that they've only allowed a 2 week window to take the HESI.

Yes there is only a two week window to take it and I believe they're administered both in the morning and afternoon. There are certain dates that you can sign up for the test and you can call the testing center at Brookhaven to get those dates. Also keep in mind that you can take the test at any location that offers it if the Brookhaven dates do not fit your schedule, I took mine at El Centro but I know they fill up very quickly.

Hey Kendra thanks a lot for offering your help and agreeing to take questions!Congratulations on how far you've come

If you don't mind me asking how many points did they take you with?

And how well did you do on your Hesi?

and what revision materials did you find useful?

sorry for being so inquisitive! :0

Absolutely, we've all been there on the waiting end and wondering what to expect, trying to get as many answers and as much insight as possible.

I had quite a few points when I applied I believe it was 30.17 with a 96% on HESI but that was the second time I took HESI, the first time I made an 84%. The best study tool I used was the HESI book and got two extra practice books that had a lot of questions. It's not hard at all, just time consuming and the first time I kind of rushed through it so take your time and do lots of practice questions and you will be golden.

Any other questions, please let me know. Good luck!

Hey Kendra thank you so much for replying!!!!!

I tried out the Hesi for the first time in march and had an 84 too and just like you I rushed through it because I kept telling myself it was a trial and anatomy ended up pulling me down! This time however I have all my prereqs and I have no choice but to give it my all!

What were those other books you used ?

What was most helpful with anatomy?

And about nursing school how are the schedules looking and would they allow me to have atleast a part time job?

and again congratulations on your achievements thus far wishing you all the best!!!!!

I truly appreciate the response it is truly encouraging and I am very grateful!!

Here are the links for the HESI study guides I used... Nothing special for anatomy, just used the study guides, mainly the first one because it breaks down each section and what they expect you to know and it's written by the people who make the HESI itself.

Kendraaa!!!

Thank you so much I truly appreciate the response :):)

God bless you

If I have anymore questions I will be sure to ask

thank youuuu!!!

Has anyone taken the critical thinking exam or know what kind of questions to expect on it?

I am also applying for the spring 2017 Brookhaven Nursing Program but I am so nervous about not having all the requirements before submitting my application. Do you have to have all 3 shots for Hepatitis B before submitting my application?
