During your first semester you have a lab day, skills day, and lecture day for the first 7 weeks; after that your skills day is over and you'll begin clinicals-could be the same day, could be a different day. You'll continue to go to lab and lecture as you have been. In the summer, classes start the week following you final week of first semester. You'll have lecture and lab for the first 4 weeks I believe is what it was, you'll then start clinical which is 4 weeks, 3 days in a row; for instance we went Wednesday, Thursday, Friday as well as your continued lecture day, ours was on a Monday. Third semester is the most hectic but I wouldn't worry a thing about that until the time comes. If you're needing health insurance go to ifcs.us that is a very bare minimum "insurance" but it'll work for the program.

I don't remember exactly what the writing sample was because that was almost two years ago, but I want to say it was something along the lines of describing qualities you think a nurse should have and how you can incorporate those into your practice. It is very possible that I'm totally wrong or they've completely changed it.

Basic interview questions are asked. They are group interviews with about 4 different instructors interviewing you in groups of about 5. The career services center at BHC does mock interviews which helped me both in the program interview and helped me land my first nursing job so I highly recommend it. Also, do it sooner rather than later so you have time to practice. Best of luck!!

The program at Brookhaven is 16 months long but with the few breaks you get like Christmas & spring break it actually totals to be about 18 months. If you start in in January you graduate in June, if you start in August you graduate December.

Regarding vaccines you can go to Dallas County Health & Human Services (off of Skillman I believe) and tell them the vaccines you need for school & it's not more than $10 per vaccine without insurance. For HESI you must register in person, I recommend going the morning of the first day because it does fill up quickly; you go pay at the register in the main lobby first and then go to the testing center to schedule your date and time. With the drug calc class you can you a 4 function calculator (the standard basic 97 cent calculator). When I took it 2 years ago you could take it on any of the days but remember you get multiple chances to make 90% or higher but as long as you do the practice tests posted, you'll be just fine. Hi there, I'm a recent grad of the Brookhaven program so I will try to help where I can. My first suggestion is to make sure all your prerequisites are out of the way because once you're in the program you're going to want that to be your primary focus. As far as challenges go, nursing school in general is a challenge but with determination & will power, you can definitely come out on top & successful. The dosage & calculations exam is fairly easy, as long as you do the two practice exams then the actual test should be a piece of cake. I never had to take the critical thinking exam so hopefully someone else who has taken it can help you there. I'll direct some of my friends who are currently in the program to your post and maybe they can help. The interview is intimidating but looking back on it, it really wasn't that bad, my suggestion is once you get your email invite for the interview, schedule a mock interview in the career services department at Brookhaven, the questions asked there are basically the same questions that will be asked in the interview. I believe that answers most your questions, to my ability. Feel free to ask whatever else comes to mind & good luck!!

As long as you have your titers that prove that you're immune to those diseases, then you can take those to the Brookhaven college nurse in the S building and she can confirm them for you. As far as pharmacology goes, the instructor that teaches at Brookhaven is the same instructor that will be your first semester lecture instructor (unless something changes); with that said, I suggest taking pharmacology in a lecture setting because the medications will come up in your practice for years to come and I have had many of my classmates tell me that they wish they would've taken it in person rather than online and wished they would've paid more attention. I enjoyed my pharm class at Brookhaven, so I'd suggest to form your own opinion if you choose to take it. Best of luck!

I really can't remember quite honestly. I believe one of my friends told me about her acceptance around noon-ish but it was also the day after interviews so it could very well be Monday before a final decision is made.

Waiting to hear back in the hardest part! I know in the fall they heard a lot sooner than they had intentionally planned so I hope the same for y'all! Can't wait to hear how it goes, good luck in your interviews!

I would also suggest spreading the word to your interview groups about this forum because you can all help and encourage each other throughout the journey. And once accepted, create a Facebook group and add some current or previous students that can help you with questions about the actual program, this kinda stuff helps a ton especially in the beginning as it can be an exciting but overwhelming time.

Not sure how I missed the notification for this response but interview questions are your standard questions. If you do the mock interview, I will almost guarantee that you'll hear those exact same questions in the actual interview itself. As far as the writing sample goes it's something like name three qualities that you think a nurse should possess or tell me about a time when you faced a challenge and how you overcame it. Very general stuff.
