Brookhaven College Spring 2017

Published

I am hoping to be part of the Brookhaven College Spring 2017 Nursing Class and I want to start a new thread where other potential students can communicate with one another. I am almost done with my pre-requisites. Currently I am working on getting Chemistry and Ethics out of the way. I plan on taking nursing pathophysiology this summer if it is offered.

Any one have any suggestions on how to prepare for the HESI A2? I am also interested in any advice that can help me with my dosage class. I am very nervous about the dosage course since the test must be passed with a 90%. Good luck everyone!

Hey Luna!

I was able to get everything turned in successfully today and ended with 41.73 points! I was able to get my titer today as well and the nurse at Brookhaven recommended that I get a titer for Varicella, MMR, and Hep B. Curious if anyone else has done that as well.

Good luck to everyone!!

Current 3rd semester student here. :) My advice regarding titers is: You will likely need a varicella and MMR titer as well, especially going into peds and OB. Hep B is required before starting so my suggestion is getting them all completed at the same time. If you don't have sufficient insurance, Lumin Care does each for $36 on Valley View in Farmers Branch. Any other questions, feel free to ask!

I was confirmed to have 34.31 points. I hope this is enough to get an interview. Super nervous. The wait is killing me!

Got my email too 38.61 points awarded . Good luck everyone!!

Is this 3 different draws of blood or do they just charge for 36$ for each and run the tests?

Thanks for the information.

Points confirmed as well 38.73. Just trying to stay busy and let the rest fall in to place.

I was there last week and they told me that it would be $36 for each one as they are done are separate tests.

Does anyone know when they will let us know whether we get an interview or not?? I couldn't find it on the website. It just says that the interviews are held October 24-28th.

Got my final points sent to me yesterday too!! So excited! Good luck to everyone!

Did anyone notice that the interview and writing sample points are as follows: Nursing student applicants with the top 50 Step 1 scores for the Spring admission and the top 70 Step 1 scores for the Fall admission will be invited for an interview and to complete a professional writing sample. (negative 10 points to 10 points may be earned for the interview, negative 5 points and 5 points may be earned for the professional writing sample) The professional writing sample will be evaluated on composition, grammar, spelling, content and legibility.

Or has it always been that way? I don't seem to remember being able to get points taken away.

Not sure about previous years but i did read that. Based on last years we should get emails on interviews after this upcoming week. Im sure that helps them narrow down top candidates.

It's $36 per test, so $108 for Hep B, MMR, and Varicella.

Kendra, I know you've probably been asked a billion times: what can we expect during the interview and writing samples?

I'm so appreciative of your support and advice to all of the potentials!!! :)

Haha it's okay, I did the same thing last year. Basic interview questions are asked, but to prepare for the interview you can call the career services center in the S building and set up a mock-interview with Adam and the questions that he asks are very similar to the ones that are asked in the actual interview. As far as the writing sample goes, it can be anything. It may say "tell me about some of your strengths and weaknesses" or "tell me about a time when... and how that helped you..." Generally the questions are going to ask you to (basically) brag about yourself and how that makes you stand out from everyone else applying, but do so in a sense that doesn't come off as a "better than you" attitude. I hope this helps. Good luck!!
