Brookhaven ADN Spring 2020

Published

Hello everybody! I will FINALLY be applying for Brookhaven for the Spring 2020 entrance. I have watched previous forums to see what to expect and I'm excited but nervous. Are there any students here enrolled in the concurrent enrollment through Brookhaven and Texas Tech? I hope to hear more from you guys as we go through this process!

Hello!

My goal is to apply to brookhaven for 2020. I am currently in a fast track anatomy and physiology 1 and 2. I have completed one with a B and so far have an A in the second part. I'm taking Ethics, intro to chem, patho, pharm, a physical ed, and math class all online bc I'm also applying to mountianview. I made a 88 on my HESI but I want to retake it in August. I will not have a summer but I'm trying to get in badly. How is patho an pharm through MVC if anyone has taken it. One teacher is D. Bell and the other is V. Jones. Can we take the Hesi more than once in a application cycle?

Hi @Jaye Seals! I took V. Jones for Patho and she wasn't too bad from what I remember. I got a B in her class. I'm like you-I won't have much of a summer even with my classes online the intensity of the classes won't allow much fun doing lol. Technically, I think you're only allowed to take the test once in an application period (for Spring 2020 that would be September of this year) but email an advisor about that. I took mines twice however, it was outside of this time frame and it was at MVC, not Brookhaven so the rules may be just specifically to Brookhaven's testing center. Even if you retake it (which I don't think you should 88 is great!), you can only submit one set of those scores.

Thanks. I believe im reaching the 2 year mark so I may have too. I just heard brookhaven was really hard to get into and to be competitive you should shoot for a 90 or above. Hopefully we can apply and get in fingers crossed. Im happy that they give you points for being a EMT also.

Yeah. I believe a lot of ADN programs are recognizing that those of us who are already in the field, have valuable experience that can help be an addition to what we learn in nursing school. The universities on the other hand are kind of slow concerning this in their ranking of nursing students but hopefully in future times, this will change.

Do you know how many points one should have to be competitive for Brookhaven and Mountain View. ?

In the last forum for Fall 2019, the lowest I believe to get in was like 21 or 22 points (don't quote me on this but I know someone had 20 and they didn't get accepted). So, I think the range is about there but I think competitive would be 25 points and up. If I can pull some of these classes out, I would be around the 26-30 range. This is for Brookhaven.

For Mountain View, I've seen as low as 13-14 pts get in and someone had as a high as like 21 or 22 points so competitive for them would be like 16 and up. I've been watching these forums like a hawk but it gives me a chance to see where I stack up.

I was going to ask about the hesi.does it really matter if I take it outside Dcccd schools and during non application period. will it count against me when I want to apply?

At mountain you have to take it at a dcccd campus and Brookhaven’s website says any school is okay, but it can only be taken once an application period. I’m not sure if you can take it now and it counts but I don’t see why not.

Hello everyone,

I am pretty new to all of this and I have a lot of questions. I plan on applying to the Brookhaven Fall 2020 period and I have a few more things I need to do (vaccinations, hesi, dosage calculation. The only pre-reqs. I have left are Patho, Chem, and Pharm. I still have 9 more core classes left (which my advisor made it seem like I needed to finish majority of them prior to the nursing program, like History, Gov., Stats, Phed.)

Did you guys finish all of your core classes yet, and if not do you plan to cram them during the nursing program itself?

Also, do you guys know of any places in Dallas where I can get my shots done for a reasonable price. I need all of them accept MMR, and I know one of them you have to space out between the set.

Thanks guys. I can't wait to catch up to you all and go through this process together.

Hello @CynthiaJ26! All my classes are technically done, however, I'm retaking some to get better grades (CHEM 1405 and BIOL 2401). Dallas County Adult Immunizations office is a good place to go to if your doctor or your job doesn't do them. There's a form you fill out stating you don't have insurance and you pay like $10 for each vaccination; they'll make a record of them for you. I got some of mine from there and then some of mine are done annually from my job (like my TB shot-which reminds me, I have one due for May starting tomorrow lol).

Since you're applying Fall 2020, you have some time to finish these classes. I've crammed classes into one semester before (I took 5 classes in one spring semester, which was nuts! I was looking for a challenge so that's why I did it but never again). I would say look at what you can handle. Can you only handle one class at a time or do you think you can add a class or two to your load? Your core classes you don't have to be complete before the nursing program (except those specifically stated in the forms for BHC and MVC) but keep in mind-You need at least 20 points to be considered and from the last group for Fall 2019, for those who got in, that range started at 21 or 22 points (or something close to that). The advisor is pushing you to finish those classes as much as possible so you don't have to struggle with these classes while you're in the program or on the back end after you finish your ADN. However, you know what works best for you so work it from there. Sorry this is soooooo long but I just wanted to put out the best information for you. ?

This would definitely be something I may have to talk to one of the nursing administrative assistants about to get clarification. I took mines in January but I wonder if BHC will let me use it?? I hope so-I don't want to retake that wretched thing again lol
