Hi. I am new here. I don't know exactly where to go. I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines and I am interested in studying in Australia for a bridging course that will help me become a registered nurse there. I need some help on looking for a good school that offers a bridging course.
My aunt told me that a friend of her friend just went to AU to take up a test and in 6 months she's there for a bridging program. and I have this friend who has a friend who became a registered nurse in AU in 6 months time too. This agency is offering me to study for a certificate III aged care with occupational English test for 46 weeks in Einstein College but it costs too much. So now, I am trying to look for a school wherein I can apply by myself and hopefully get in. I am hoping I could leave for AU this June 2011. I am a bit lost on what to do. Can you help me, please? Any suggestions? ? Please help me. Thank you very much.
(Sydney area would be better since my parents are more familiar and in favor of that place... though other cities/areas will be great too)
This is just an opinion based on readings and observations how other Austration certifying/assessment agencies for other professions work like ACS for IT/computer related courses and EA for engineers. Of course, AHPRA/NMBA will have the best answer.
ACS and EA would normally deduct 1 or 2 years of work experience from the total number of years after getting the degree. This is considered to be an apprenticeship period so technically the person is not yet considered "proficient" for the applied line of work.
Now, if... that is if AHPRA has the same mindset, then, your experience as a "nurse" with the high school degree MAY not be considered as on the same level as that of someone who practiced coming from a bachelor's degree.
Understandably, in practice you may have been doing jobs that is supposed to be done by those with bachelor's degree and a lot better, more efficient and with more confidence that a nurse with a bachelor's degree because of the years of experience BUT again technically you are not a "nurse" with the required bachelor's degree while practicing the profession.
Please don't get me wrong... this is just a mere technicality issue and does not impose a negative assessment on your part.
We can discuss at length the merits and demerits of your case but again, the bottom line will always be what AHPRA/NMBA decides.
I suggest that you contact them and lay down your cards. I just hope that the Registration Officer to be assigned to your case will have had an experience with a case like yours or at least would be diligent enough to do some research if not. Knowing the volume of applications that they are processing specially with the coming end of school year this September.
However, since you will still be graduating on June 2019... you may just add another 450 hours of work before applying for accreditation with AHPRA. That is just 3-4 months anyway.
As a caveat, you will have to hurdle another assessment body which is ANMAC, should you wish to apply for permanent residency after hurdling AHPRA/NMBA. But that would be another long discussion.

hello thanks for your answer.And i can clearly understand your point. Cas there is no nursing level with high school degree in Australia. So i don't know either how my application will be assessed.So they may refuse all my experience here we share the same point.I dunno I will wait and see. I know the Anmac thing but my husband is an internal medicine(general medicine)physician so he will apply to register earlier than me and i hope that he can find a job and apply for a visa. So i can come there without making any visa application.:) ohh i dunno guys but when i think about the process and especially ''my process'' my head just blows out. Even there is 1 year to my application my mind just blows out by thinking the process.By the way i have already sent an enquiry to AHPRA but they sent a really basic answer to me which includes the same infos on their website.Then agen i sent an enquiry and they sent an email to me that i should wait 2-3 days more. Even though i am a person who believes in deism started to pray lol.Think about my situation lol. Anyway thank you so much both for your response and @Simpleclaudia's. Is it true that LOE's valid for a year? And assuming I had undergone and became a AUSRN, do i need to take again another PTE while my application for PR is still ongoing? for example my application for PR has 2 months passed already and PTE's about to expire, would it affect the processing time for PR? 1. LOE from AHPRA is valid for 1 year.
2. PTE/English exam is valid for 2 years with AHPRA and 3 years with ANMAC.
If I may suggest, why don't you save up about 75% of your projected expenses (AHPRA fees, Visa fees, documentation, projected board and lodging while taking the BP). If you include up to PR visa processing, this can go upwards of more than 25,000 AUD.
It would seem to be a futile effort to get an LOE now, then start saving up for the expenses... but of course, it depends on your financial resources.
The idea is that you have access to the needed funds in order to fasttrack the process and avoid retaking the English exams and other documentary requirements that are time sensitive, like COGS, police clearances, etc.

Of course you can submit your application. You can always get the booster doses here. What matter is you are negative from infection of hepB. You can always write directly to the school.
Why would you allow this to impede your application? Instead of withdrawing, write to the correct body and address your concerns to them.
All we can do here is suggest and answer what we know but remember, decisions made by the school is different.

Normally 2 serologies are required for HepB.
a. Anti-HBc (IgG) which is a marker for past or current HepB infection
b. Anti-HBs (quali) which indicates the level of HepB surface antibody. The presence of anti-HBs is generally interpreted as indicating recovery and immunity from hepatitis B virus infection
If your anti-HBc is less that 1.0 S/CO you are non-reactive meaning you never had HepB.
Now, you will check your immunity with anti-HBs... labs usually indicate 10 as immune but some would prefer the 12-15 range.
If you are not yet immune, as SimpleClaudia said, you can always get a booster shot or have another round of vaccination.
Hello, I'm planning to migrate to Australia and practice nursing, I'm an RN in the Philippines with less than a year experience. I've read through the ANMAC, ACN, NMBA websites and still the process gets a bit redundant/confusing. First, what is an LOE, how do I secure one, and are there any requirements to secure LOE? I plan to take BP in ACN and it says in their website that I have to get a referral from AHPRA first before I can enroll (is the AHPRA referral the same as LOE)? Should I gather all the AHPRA requirements already to acquire an LOE, even before I enroll in ACN? Or is it possible to enroll in ACN first and then work through the AHPRA requirements along the way?
