Bridging Program in Australia

World Registration

Published

Hi. I am new here. I don't know exactly where to go. I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines and I am interested in studying in Australia for a bridging course that will help me become a registered nurse there. I need some help on looking for a good school that offers a bridging course.

My aunt told me that a friend of her friend just went to AU to take up a test and in 6 months she's there for a bridging program. and I have this friend who has a friend who became a registered nurse in AU in 6 months time too. This agency is offering me to study for a certificate III aged care with occupational English test for 46 weeks in Einstein College but it costs too much. So now, I am trying to look for a school wherein I can apply by myself and hopefully get in. I am hoping I could leave for AU this June 2011. I am a bit lost on what to do. Can you help me, please? Any suggestions? ? Please help me. Thank you very much. :clown:

(Sydney area would be better since my parents are more familiar and in favor of that place... though other cities/areas will be great too)

is it No.12 Babysetting or child minding services arranged by commercial agency ?

plz guide

Hi guys! I just need some help regarding the immunization record needed for the application document in ACN. I don't have a copy of my immunization record back in college. Can I just have all the immunization needed by this time? Thanks.

@mekenimekenidugdugdoremi, BSN.

Even you do. You are still required to submit serology tests results for the diseases you received vaccinations to determine if you have developed antibodies against the diseases.

It is still prudent to check if you have developed antibodies for any of the vaccines you received in the past before going for another round of immunisation.

Good luck

So, I have to do serology tests prior to vaccination? Thanks for the reply.

Getting a serology for specific antibodies would be ideal but it's quite difficult to find labs that do serology for MMR, dTpa and even varicella... unless you're in Manila. The cost is also quite stiff. The next best thing would be to try to visit the clinic where you got your vaccination and ask for certification. The last option would be to be vaccinated again.

Hello habid4985. How was your experience wirh ahpra? I am having the same questions in my mind i will be graduated by june 2019 so as soon as i graduated i am thinking of applying for australia do i have to work 450 hours before applying or as it says on their recency of practise fact sheet "if a person is a recent graduate dont need to meet this standart" based on which statement should i act on? I am sure they will tell me that i have to take bridging program but before that as a recent graduate in 2019 do i have to work 450 hours before my application? Please enlighten me:( any answer would be appriciated. Thanks in advance.

@dreamlover93. I think no one can tell you of what the outcome of your application with AHPRA will be as each applicant is different. However if you read AHPRA requirements for registration application, they ask for recency of practice- means paid work. In order to comply that, its prudent to say try to secure a paid employment first. Most Australian employers prefers those with some paid experience too.

When you are doing your Bridging program, the assessors don't expect you to act as a student but as a competent nurse with minimal supervision on the floor. And prior experience will give the confidence too.

Safe medication administration is taken very seriously here. I met some students who cannot answer the "why" during assessment and failed the program. This is just an idea. Submitting an application to AHPRA is just one step forward. Preparing yourself as to what lies ahead is equally important too to be successful.

But if you can finance yourself for further nursing education to qualify for registration is the other option AHPRA will refer you to if you do not meet the recency of practice requirements.

In the end, we can only determine the outcome of our application if we applied for one. I wish you well.

thank you so much for your answer! i really appreciate it. The thing makes me confused makes you confused as well i think.I am a really experienced nurse with 7 years. Let me explain how.

In Turkey back in time we had nursing high schools which you can study after secondary school it is a real high school which gives you an oppurtunity to have a job after graduation so i went to nursing high school and graduated in 2011.Then as soon as i graduated i took a national exam then i started to work at my 18 age. Then i decided to go to University in 2015 to study ''Bachelor of science in Nursing(which take 4 years to graduate)'' in Turkey being a university graduated nurse makes your salary highrt than the high school graduated ones and it gives you an oppurtunity to work as a lecturer after some research(without university degree you can't do any of theese but with your nursing high school degreee you can only work as a nurse by being paid less.) So i am really confused how to fill my application form. I am a nurse 7 years experience with my Nursing high school degree but no experience with my university degree. By the time i apply for registration to Australia(ahpra) (i am thinking of applying as soon as i graduated from university which is june 2019) how will i do my application? related to them i will be a new graduate nurse,but actually i am not... i dont know i am really really confued:(:(:(

@Dreamlover93.

Each country has its own nursing curriculum. Like you said. You have 7 years nursing work experience. All the things you mentioned will be assessed by AHPRA. Make sure you will supply them with complete documentations for the claims you made in your application form. Or you can send them a web inquiry about your doubts.

How is your English language requirement? Did you ace it already? As this is one of the hardest part to meet for most international nurses.

yeah i think i will have hard times with the documentation thing cas it is a complex situation both for me and for the ahpra. I haven't done the ielts yet. I am thinking of taking the exam prior to my graduation date from the university(maybe 1 month or 2 months before the graduation.like april or may 2019).I don't think that it will be a hurdle for me. Have you applied already?How is your process going? by the way which country are you from?

This is just an opinion based on readings and observations how other Austration certifying/assessment agencies for other professions work like ACS for IT/computer related courses and EA for engineers. Of course, AHPRA/NMBA will have the best answer.

ACS and EA would normally deduct 1 or 2 years of work experience from the total number of years after getting the degree. This is considered to be an apprenticeship period so technically the person is not yet considered "proficient" for the applied line of work.

Now, if... that is if AHPRA has the same mindset, then, your experience as a "nurse" with the high school degree MAY not be considered as on the same level as that of someone who practiced coming from a bachelor's degree.

Understandably, in practice you may have been doing jobs that is supposed to be done by those with bachelor's degree and a lot better, more efficient and with more confidence that a nurse with a bachelor's degree because of the years of experience BUT again technically you are not a "nurse" with the required bachelor's degree while practicing the profession.

Please don't get me wrong... this is just a mere technicality issue and does not impose a negative assessment on your part.

We can discuss at length the merits and demerits of your case but again, the bottom line will always be what AHPRA/NMBA decides.

I suggest that you contact them and lay down your cards. I just hope that the Registration Officer to be assigned to your case will have had an experience with a case like yours or at least would be diligent enough to do some research if not. Knowing the volume of applications that they are processing specially with the coming end of school year this September.

However, since you will still be graduating on June 2019... you may just add another 450 hours of work before applying for accreditation with AHPRA. That is just 3-4 months anyway.

As a caveat, you will have to hurdle another assessment body which is ANMAC, should you wish to apply for permanent residency after hurdling AHPRA/NMBA. But that would be another long discussion.

Hope this helps.

@dreamlover93.

Like what @cucci, BSN, RN said, its best to contact AHPRA either by call or web inquiry.

I would say, invest some of your time by sending your inquiries directly to AHPRA and get the right answers for your case.

In regards to your questions about me. I passed all the hurdles already and I am now working here in Australia.

Good luck to your endeavors!
