Official Statement Regarding Passing of Brian Short, Founder of allnurses.com, September 12, 2015
We are deeply saddened by the unexpected death of Brian Short, founder of allnurses.com. We respectfully request that you grant the company's employees, friends, families and associates privacy during this difficult time. allnurses will continue to support nursing professionals by providing an unparalleled peer-to-peer online community where they can share experiences and learn from and support one another.
Please use this thread to post your comments of condolence and gratitude for Brian who created this wonderful nursing community that has benefited so many.
Where are all of our original posts? Many of us have been a part of the AllNurses family for many years, some from its inception. Our thoughts & prayers are with Brian's (& his wife's) families, his coworkers, friends, & my fellow nurses here.
There was a technical glitch and the original thread had to be re-started, meaning that replies were lost.
I firmly believe that this is just another reminder how important community is...to remind us how much we need each other...but that we might be to embarrassed to say anything....or to prideful...I'm sure he was an outstanding person, who for reasons that are nobody's but his and God's, but succumbed to a moment of vulnerability....look, I'm not here to take anything away from what this MAN did for us as a nursing community or for his family, but PLEASE remember to always love unconditionally both the familiar and stranger, our lives are insignificant as individuals but when we come together, that is when we make life as beautiful as we imagine it...God bless and continue to love
I'd like to think that each individual matters, each of us is significant to God and to at least one other person. Otherwise, if a person isn't in a family or doesn't have some friends, that would mean he or she doesn't matter. The Bible tells us in John 3:16 that God sent His only begotten Son to die for the sins of humankind. And that whosoever believes in Jesus shall have life everlasting in Heaven. Not whatsoever community, but whosoever individuals. You are certainly entitled to your own religious and philosophical views, this is just mine.
Oh, heartbreaking. I'm so sorry for all of you who knew Brian and are grieving. (((Hugs))) I'm praying for peace for all of you, and for the family members of the deceased.
Allnurses has been my daily read for 6 years. I don't say much, but I have learned so much, laughed, and felt the camaraderie of fellow nurses. I'm so thankful for Brian's contribution to nursing.

My condolences to the Shorts' family, friends, the AN moderators and administrators may you find peace and comfort in remembering the good lives they lived. I would like to share a poem
Not How Did He die, But How Did He Live -author unknown
Not how did he die, but how did he live?
Not what did he gain, but what did he give?
These are the units to measure the worth
of a man as a man, regardless of birth.
Not what was his church, nor what was his creed?
But had he befriended those really in need?
Was he ever ready, with a word of good cheer?
to bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say?
but how many were sorry when he passed away?
