Breast impants..again..

Published

Hello everyone!I posted about breast implants about a year ago,but was wanting to know if anyone has any new information or personal experiences that they would like to share.I am still seriously considering getting breast implants, and enjoy hearing about postive and negative experiences from anyone that is willing to share their personal experiences. Thank you to everyone in advance! =)

Disfiguring, superficial, twisted, ...if there is a medically necessary, for self esteem, psychological post mastectomy, why on earth do woman subject themselves to such risk? Brings to mine other threads about body alterations that are medically unnecessary. Society is sick and superficial, and advocating medically unnecessary body alterations/disfigurements are not the mark of a true health care provider.

."

My question is why do you need this to feel good about yourself? If YOU can accept yourself as you are, then it will not matter what others think. A lot of society is sick and superficial, especially when it comes to ideals about women's bodies and the desire to be young forever. I personally refuse to disfigure myself to satisy some twisted and unreal societal fantasy.

well, from someone who did get them...here are a few tidbits.... best 5000 bucks i ever spent. i am 5ft 6...and was an a cup....i am a very health conscience person...but that was one part of my body i wasn't satisfied with and couldn't change through working out...i think that to assume it is superficial...etc is very generalized and shows ignorance....let's face it ...if you have a chipped tooth - you get that fixed, right...(well maybe LOL)

anyway...if you do your research, ensure that your surgeon is a PLASTIC surgeon that is board cert'd in PLASTIC surg...the risks are very minimal especially w/ saline implants.... all in all the risks w/ saline are

well, i hope this helps...i love the fact that i did this thing for myself that makes me happy and in the end - that is what matters.

VERY well said!!! I agree 5000 was well worth it!

I dunno. I don't need them but would consider them for a medical reason like after a mastectomy. Nothing wrong with getting them....if you want them...that's a personal decision. But I must say to me they look so very fake. Like two big balls just planted on the chest. Just don't look natural to me.

1. if someone were spending this money instead of getting a house...i would think twice about priorities....but those of us who are logical and motivated...5000.00 is chump change...and had no impact on my substantial home.

2. most people don't believe mine are implants...they are completely natural - they are of course under the muscle which makes a huge difference...but i have had people argue with me that i was lying about them being "fake" .... again...research your surgeon....

I know, that's why it would take a mastectomy for me to even consider it.

I noticed on the side that you are 24. Now I'm not sure, but I don't think you can breastfeed with implants. Again, I'm not to sure on this, but you are only 24 and if you are planning on having children, research this. Just something to think about!! Good luck either way!!!

....

those of us who are logical and motivated? $5,000 chump change? Wow. You're quite lucky then. I consider myself very logical and very motivated but $5,000 certainly isn't chump change in my book and an extra $5,000 would certainly have an impact on my substantial home. Yes, it is quite substantially.....really it is!

I'm glad you're happy with your results and that $5,000 wouldn't mean diddly in your substantial home. :uhoh3:

Continued good luck to you

This is a very personal decision. I don't think the opinion of total strangers should sway you one way or the other. Talk to your family and friends. Talk to your doctor. Know why you are doing it and don't worry about what anyone else says about your mental state or whatever. I've done a lot of mastectomies, mastopexies, reconstructions, etc. in the OR. It's a very very personal thing for a woman.

Mitchsmom...I think it depends on how big the person gets their boobs. I hardly look big in the midsection. Besides, you could say that for anyone who is large chested with out fake boobs.

Yes, you could, which is one of the many reasons I personally wouldn't want to make myself large-chested. I can also see how this wouldn't be an issue if you stayed fairly small, but I think most of the implanted women I know of have this appearance. Just my opinion.

I agree about the $5000... I wish it were chump-change in this house! Was it a nurse that said that? Maybe nursing pays better than I thought it did!

You guys, I think we should stop talking about what's 'chump change' to us and stay focused on the ORIGINAL post. Just give her the pros and cons and maybe introduce new VALID thoughts that are of importance, not what chump change is to you. No personal attacks please.

Hi rnnurse2b,

It's good that you are seeking out opinions and advice about such a major decision. It's amazing what you learn from other people's experiences and opinions. Here are a couple of words of advice for you.

Make sure you realize that the implants and the residual effects are permanent. No matter if the implants stay or are removed.

You may truly never know you have made the right decision until you make one.

Please research all you can about what implants really feel like. I had a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction at the same time. I can say that I did not want to look at myself and see absolutely no breasts. The implants were a way to get around that. So when I had the mastectomies the reconstruction was done at the same time. Of course, you only come out of a surgery like that with small sized implants and then they gradually add more and more saline over several months until you are the size that you want. This was a great way to deal with body image issues.

Of course, I had other issues to deal with but I think that the implants saved me from really seeing myself stripped. Don't get me wrong there are still many issues but the implants gave me something to focus on.

I am generally happy with the implants. They do get hard once in awhile and it did take some time to get used to them. I would say the worst thing is the loss of sensation. I'm sure that is due more to having mastectomies than the implants but I would check around about that issue.

Good Luck with your decision and most importantl don't forget to do your BSE and learn the correct way to do BSE's when you have implants.
