BRCC NURSING 2017

Published

This is a thread for students who are applying in the Spring of 2017 at Baton Rouge Community College for the ASN program! Feel free to comment with questions, thoughts, or anything else that pertains to the nursing program! :)

So I feel like I need to make at least one friend who is starting in the spring before the program actually starts. It will settle my nerves í ½í¸‚

Well. Idk what's goin on exactly with me quite yet lol. But I'll be your friend :)

I start in the fall.

We can still be friends tho!! Lol!!

Dang terry I wish I was in the fall lol

In your acceptance letter, did it state which semester you would start in?

:o

Hey guys, I'm new and just enrolled in BRCC. My goal is to apply for the 2018 enrollment period.

I don't have any friends or know anyone that's in the program right now. Do you guys happen to know if textbooks are mandatory or if they're paper/digital format?

Thanks!

I recommend you take most if not all 5 pre-reqs at BRCC, and do very well in those courses. As for textbook requirements, professors will let you know. I personally prefer the physical textbooks over e-books especially for biology classes and anatomy& physiology. Dr. MacHauer is a great professor for A&P which I highly recommend to take him. For both microbiology and A&P, I got international edition textbooks, which are much much more affordable, the only difference is the cover.

As for the HESI, prepare yourself in advance especially if you need to polish grammar and basic math.

Would I still need to retake the maths & english if I tested out of them years ago?

For a bit of reference, I'm 24 and returning to school after a 2.5 year break.

I originally graduated high school in 2011.

When I spoke to Christin Dillion, she said I would only need to take the classes I don't have credit for yet because I had tested out of all my basic maths & english through my old ACT scores. So, the only prereqs I have are A&P I, my humanities/art, and intro to Psych.

I don't see the point in taking all of the 5 reqs if I don't need to you know? BC when I spoke to her, since I technically tested out of them, there are not grades attached and it's just marked as having been completed. She said my GPA would be calculated off the classes I'm taking now.

And I'm not worried about the HESI. I always found the format of standardized tests to be easier than regular subject tests in school. I went ahead and purchased the review book from the book store as well anyways.

Yeah, given your status I was gonna recommend to talk to Christin Dillion but you already did. She was very helpful to me and would absolutely go by what she says. Seems like you are good then. My only recommendation is to stay in touch with Christin, any questions go to her directly.

I and another friend of mine got accepted and are starting in Spring. :) I'll be your friend haha

I'm also starting in the spring!
