Brandman University ABSN Program

Published

Hi All,

I'm wondering if any one has heard of Brandman University. They have a new ABSN program in San Diego, CA that i'm looking into. My grades are not competitive but i want to get into my career soon.

Has anyone been to this school, and if so, how did you like it? Do you think I'll be able to land a good job as an RN if I were to apply and attend? I'm nervous, since it is a new program! Such as, what if they end up closing and the degree won't be valid ?

Thanks in advance.

apparently they did not transfer her courses taken over, as she is no longer interested in this school and considers it a terrible choice and declined her spot, or so she said. IDK??? I understood some declining spots if they were accepted into other programs and heard back earlier as I knew a few that did that. I also understood 619 nurse as she is a LVN and a bridge program was much cheaper and same time frame to be an RN. All super valid reasons to decline imo.

What isn't is the people upset that schools didn't want to take their decade old transcripts and science classes that no other university takes because they all have expiration dates in their applications. Medical school, dental school, beck even dental hygiene has 3 year expiration on sciences esp with labs. Then the discrepancies among accepted and non and start dates is confusing, but not enough to lose a chance at being accepted.
People have some crazy theory that it is easy to get into RN programs, private or state univeristy programs. The ADN programs have long waitlists also and price is low. The super expensive programs have just as long of a waitlist and most of those are run off lottery based application processes. I prefer the schools using a points system to rank applicants as it's easier to know looking at criteria if you ever have a shot at being accepted.

Maybe they chose Brandman purely because it didn't have a TEAS test prior to application? Not taking the TEAS test and wanting to be a nurse was a downside it excludes almost all the programs ADN/BSN in california. This school was not as crazy as people made it seem to get in. The criteria they used was mostly based on GPA and science GPA. Then the recency of those science classes. The dean they hired for the nurse program and the people working this program NOW are very well skilled and high academics and experience. The previous ones they let go to make sure this program would stay high scores with state boards to stay in business.

I think the people enrolled and accepted will be happy once done, I think they intend to push NCLEX testing review from day 1 int their program. And each cohort that starts, has the same graduation end date as long as you pass each course along your path. Otherwise your end date won't be the same or you get rejected from the program. This is how all medical programs go.

I actually chose this school due to location, and who they contracted to work clinical hours with. I knew of this program before they announced it as it showed up in my ca state news letters mail of new programs approved for business. The hoops ca and the nurse board made them go through was a ton. It outlined all the things done and needed. This on top of covid was the set backs and will be until covid situation resolved for new applicants and start dates for new students into clinicals.

@KyleMG who is she you are referring to when you said, “apparently they did not transfer her courses taken over, as she is no longer interested in this school and considers it a terrible choice and declined her spot, or so she said. IDK???”

Yes, you are correct I declined my seat offer for various reason but main reasons being: the overall cost of the program, I am already a LVN and the bridge program was a better choice for me, the distance is farther than my bridge program location and a few of their requirements would cost me more out of pocket in the end.
Good Luck in you’re program ?

@ABN you too love!! ?

hello,

may I ask where you took most of your pre req courses?

I took all of mine at a community college and some UCSD.

@kathy0805 Were you asking in general to everyone or someone in particular?

Hey y’all so I actually just discovered Brandman U today and I was looking into their program. I was just wondering how the application process went for those who got accepted.
I have my Associates in Biology and have taken most of the pre-reqs needed but the thing I lowkey worry about is GPA. It isn’t all that competitive and it’s kind of disheartening since I really do want to be a nurse, but I’ve had several professors who’ve shown they don’t really care about their students and that ended up hurting my GPA. I do feel a little anxious because I feel like a lot of people here have very competitive GPA’s and experience.
I don’t have any other back up plan aside from being a nurse and I’ve been feeling stuck, like a bunch of my peers have their lives together and I’m barely getting mine together. ?

The EC I talked to informed me that their cohort for Fall of this year was already full so only Spring & Summer were open.. I’ve been reading through different comments saying they applied for Fall 2020 but won’t start the nursing cohort until January 2021? I’m just a bit confused with what that’s all about.

But congratulations to those who got accepted! I hope y’all enjoy the classes and please give updates when you can!

@MaJoves Good Luck on submitting your applications into the program. For now, you don't need to take the TEAS Test, but my EC informed me that you do need all your science pre-reqs completed before applying to the next application process due to changes to their program. At this time, I am not sure how they take GPA's into consideration, but I believe the process to get into the program is quite competitive more so every time they have a new application term. Lastly, always keep your options open and never give up if you're trying to become a nurse; however, there are many other different routes of nursing if you truly want to become a nurse. For example, you can pursue getting your ADN degree first then get into a Bridge RN program or get into a BSN program to get your RN degree.

Lastly, the EC's don't really tell you when you're going to get officially started, however, if you didn't complete all your pre-req's you need to complete those first and there are two courses that Brandman wants you to take before you get into the nursing course. I believe these courses are focused on plagiarism and writing per what I read on other students' commentary. So for the first term or two, you'll have to finish the pre-reqs then start up your nursing program after your done and in this case, it'll be January.

Hopefully, that helps, Good Luck on the application process!

@619nurse

It was not you girl ?

I would have pm you if it was you and chatted. I know why you declined your seat. And you made a good decision. I agree that every decision needs to be what's best for you inside.

Someone else made some comments about declining but then has been making other comments way way prior to you dropping your seat about a bunch of other stuff. Miracosta is a great school, the ratings they have are wonderful. I did a wall thru on that school and it's really nice. Really nice labs and brand new computers for each student station. Really clean school, you can see they take pride in their campus.

I have taken the sciences in my junior college, just hearing back from the EC I talked to in regards to see which classes transfer over.
Thank you so much for the thorough reply! I hope your process goes well, also!

I just got my actual letter. I'm on the waitlist =\

I finally received my letter too LOL wishing for the best!
