Books!! Do you think it is necessary to study before Sept. Start??

Published

Hey just wondering about my fellow LPN students on here!! I am starting my program in Sept. Going to a Boces LPN program upstate NY. I haven't ordered my books yet. Has anyone started the studying ahead of time or are you waiting for your program to start??

I didn't even unwrap my books until I went to the first day of class. Why? Some teachers never use the books. I had several teachers that had packets that they used. Our books sat very much unused all semester.

Valgraves~I actually did this earlier this year, but after I read your post I tried again. Boom, books listed for fall semester! Thanks for the reminder! We can't pick them up until August 7th, but at least I know I don't have to wait until orientation. Wonderful!

Ive been hunting down the textbooks on my list and found most of them for really cheap, i figure why not brush up on the stuff!!! In my packet they wrote that they would be beginning the program with the three of the 9 books listed so i ordered the first book!

When you say you found them cheap do you mean online? Not the school bookstore ? I can't find all the titles in other sites? Maybe I am not looking in the right place! Lol

Hi

I"m starting in September but on Long Island, I've been going through my A&P books and medical micro books to help re-fresh myself, I'm hoping to get my books soon. I was given the outline at my interview so I"m also reading up on those topics. Best of luck you.

I put all of my isbn numbers in the amazon search, and on the half.com search all of my nine books came up! Don't search the name do the ISBN-13 Numbers

Try contacting a professor or dean to see if they have decieded which books will be used and that way you maybe be able to get ahead start (especially if you are planning to order your books online, you are goint to need time to have them shipped)... See what they say. Good Luck!!

I've already started reading. But it really depends on the professor. Some don't use the book at all, and some expect you to begin reading before the class starts. You really never know until the first day of class.

I start the PN program Aug 27th, I had orientation yesterday. I won't receive my booklist until a week b4 school start. I could'nt start reading even if I wanted to, BUT if I was able to get my books b4 time I would....

All of the required books at my school are available any time by using the school's online bookstore link. These are the 1st semester books for my LPN program. I finished Nutrition, Biology, Human Anatomy, Microbiology, Chemistry, Psychology Thru Lifespan, and Writing & Research. I'm also taking Physiology.

Pharmacology: Administering Medications, Gauwitz ISBN 0-07-337437-7

Adult Nursing 1: Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing (W/Cd Only), Williams ISBN 0-8036-2219-8

I looked up and priced all of my books out but didn't buy them right away. I looked for free trials/previews of e-textbooks first and managed to get all of my summer assignments completed without having to spend a dime! While it's not practical for after school start it certainly let me get a feel for the books to assess if they were worth purchasing new/used/previous editions. I also bought most of my texts in e-book format because it makes it a lot more portable for me to study anywhere (I can read in bed with the lights off! woohoo!) plus they are usually 50% less than the physical books. My total for the entire program's worth of books came to $240 which is about 70% less than what the MSRP is.
