Boise state online RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi everyone!

So I just got accepted into Boise States RN-BSN online program. I am a MD resident. Has anyone been thru Boise's program?! If so how was it?

And I know this is an odd question but going there for my BSN does anyone know if it will be recognized by other states Board of Nursing.. In my case Marylands.. I don't see why it wouldn't but I've been trying to get ahold of some one from MBON to make sure before I made any final decisions but they are impossible to get in touch with!

Thanks :)

Is the Boise State program accelerated? I am also considering them along with UT Arlington.

Unless an advanced degree requires you to take boards again (like an MSN/NP program), a BON will not care where you did your BSN -- there is nothing for them to recognize. It doesn't change the source of your RN. Does that make sense?

In general, you should look for programs that are both regionally and nationally accredited. Good luck! :)

I am in my last semester in the RN-BSN program and I cannot say enough good things about it. I have really felt like the teachers care about me and get right back to me. The coordinator for the program returns e-mails immediately and she is very helpful. One can choose how slowly or quickly you get through the program. I also feel like I am much better prepared for the next level of nursing. Good luck with your choice and your future career!

Grizmama, I am looking into Boise State. I graduate this June and want to start my BSN right away. How long did the program take you? Do you work full time? do you think it was doable? I want to try and finish in one year.

The times that they have classes available, you probably won't be able to do it in a year. It took me 18 months. I was full time except this semester and I worked part time. I ended up starting to work full time and school full time last semester and it was really difficult. There are a lot of papers to write but if you are good with your time, I'm sure you could do both. I just have 2 little children that also needed my time so it was consuming. The program is great and although you graduate in June, you could probably start with classes in May, just email the advisor, she is really knowledgeable and helpful.

That is good to know. Could you tell me how the classes are spaces out? I already have stats and some upper GE from my old university before I went the ADN route. Is there summer school? Are you taking everything all at once? I know ASU divides the semester in to two 8weeks, so the first 8 weeks you take 2 classes and the last 8 weeks you only take one. Is it something similar to that?

For summer it is very similar to that. I think on their web site it shows you what is offered when and if it's not the adviser would happily email it to you. I took summer school last year an I'll take one class this summer (just a pre req for their AGNP) the great thing is about them to is that you can really go as fast or as slow as you want but the fastest is 18 months I believe. I got burnt out and took a semester off and it wasn't a big deal.

Thanks answering my questions. I really like their price and that they are accredited. Do you plan on going for your masters later on?

Overall, would you truly recommend the program? Are you glad you went to Boise State and not somewhere else? Are they organized and get back to you fairly quickly? Did you ever have a problem getting into a class you needed?

Yes, I plan on getting my masters and probably from BSU in their AGNP program, even though the first cohort started this semester. The advisor for the program really gets back to you within a couple of hours from each email you send her. If you email someone and they can't answer you, they email you back telling you who can help you and cc you in the email to the person who can help you so you have their contact information. I really didn't understand what the difference between an ADN and a BSN prepared nurse was but now I really see that distinction. I am so grateful and have zero regrets about this program. The instructors are well prepared, from around the world and have various backgrounds.

I was a student rep for a semester and would participate in the online administrative/instructor meetings once a month and felt like they really listened to me and the other students. This program really cares about the students and that is their bottom line. I really cannot say enough good things about it and I think you should go for it!

And I never had an issue getting into a class I needed. You need to be organized and have your course work lined out for the program (they have you do this in the beginning) and stick to it or keep good track of what you need. At the beginning of each semester you email the advisor and tell her what you need. There have been a few times there were more students needing a class than was being offered and they opened up another section so it was never an issue.

Thank you so much!! I think I will go for it!
