I failed to mention I had an arrest record on my license application. As I was filling out the application, to my ignorance I thought I only had to report convictions. I took boards July 21..passed and about a month later got a letter from boards saying I had not disclosed a juvenile arrest record and an arrest from when I was 19 so I was disbarred from practicing.
I sent in all proper paperwork in August(court records..ect). In early Sept. I was told I was being reviewed by a board member and now early Oct I'm told my case has been sent to a board manager. I'm so distaught. All through out nursing school background checks were given and I was never informed to make sure I disclose my arrest record to boards.
Any one else in this situation or was can shed some light?
How long is this process?

Yep. Illinois nurse here too. I was arrested 5 years before applying to become a nurse. I was arrested for driving on a suspended licence. (The suspended license was due to not having emissions testing on a car I no longer owned.)
I had gone to court and proved I had no longer owned the car when emissions was due.
The BON had me write a letter explaining the situation, turn in my court records showing charges had been dropped, and turn in the police report.
The wait was unnerving. But it takes a little time. The turn around time was relatively quick. But I wouldn't read too much into waiting a bit.
Got my license no problem shortly after. Now it is just a headache of the past.

I have no advice for you but I think it's nonsense that people have to report arrests that didn't lead to convictions. Good luck!

Just wondering, does anyone know what the IL board usually recommends for a DUI gotten 9 years before applying to be a nurse? I know it will be a long, drawn out process but I hope I would be able to get a license after that. Do you think they would start me off with a probationary license? (that is my fear)
Hi! Which forum so that I may look to see other posts and comments?
Thanks for the reply! Its been about 3 months already since I passed boards.. so sad.
That really stinks :/ I'm sorry. I remember what it was like as a new grad, ready to just start working already. And then I had that hold up. Thing of the past. I never even think about it anymore, nor wonder where I would be at in my career now if it weren't for that hold up.
As long as you submitted everything the BON asked for, I don't see how they can keep you from getting your license. But I'm no expert, of course.
Are you positive you sent everything the BON said they needed? This time of year, the BON must be flooded with stuff like this. I've heard of it taking 6 months in other states. (I was on this board asking the very same questions you are.)
Hang in there! I understand how it feels. And congratulations on passing the NCLEX. It can only go up from here :-)

I would hire an attorney or contact a company like RN Guardian. The disbarment piece can become an issue with future employment because it could be seen as "disciplinary action" taken against you by licensing body. I don't understand why the juvenile record was even disclosed because usually those records are sealed or expunged. But I would seek some expert advice on this.

I'm in a very similar situation as you. Passed around beginning September, but I did disclose arrest and conviction of a class c misdemeanor. Please update as soon as you hear something. They said mine was in final stage about a week ago.

I, too, am going through a similar ordeal. I am embarrassed to say, but in 2003 I was arrested for possession of paraphernalia. My ex husband was having an affair with an 18 year old that put it in my vehicle then called the police to have me pulled over. I consented to a search of my vehicle because I had nothing in my mini van to hide...It was dropped by a state's attorney motion. I have submitted a statement. My ex husband submitted a notarized statement. And I located the court documents, also submitted. I, too, read "conviction" to mean conviction. I'm trying to remain positive. According to Administrative Statute, arrests not followed by conviction are not to be used to disqualify so I am dually confused. Thank you to yhose that have openly shared your story. It gave me comfort and hope.

Did you get everything figured out? I'm in the same situation, was never charged and that's what it stated, to show documents of convictions. Can't believe this and now I may lose my job. Just wondering how long it took
