If there is anyone out there who has had to go before the Board of Nursing in their state for allegations, could you kindly e-mail me. I had to. Wanted to do some travel nursing. As it turns out, even after the Board that issues the order, which in my case was just a reprimand (take an online course). My license has not been restricted to practice (technically). if I want to secure a license in another state, even if the order is disclosed online, I still have to go through a new hearing in the state where i wish to secure a license. their rationale is that they won't just accept some other state's decision.

Unbelievable!

My career is ruined. If someone out there has gone through this, I would sure like to hear how you have handled this and how you have been able to obtain jobs.

Thanks :crying2:

Having been in the Louisiana RNP for a number of years I can say that this has only minor effect on your employment. Your history at various jobs and how you present yourself in an interview are most important. As long as you provide quality service while working you will not have any problem...in Louisiana... I have not worked in other states with this in my record.

I am sorry you had to go through this........:o.

Well, you were disiplined and an action was taken against your license......take a course. So..... yes, it's reportable to other states and yes they can require you to go before them to allow them to see if they will allow you practice in their state. You are, unfortunately, considered a risk to practice nursing and they have a right to accept or deny your application.

Please! tell me you have and got a lawyer to represent you with the board.........Once the board has made a determination of discipline against one's license no matter how big or small IS a big deal. YOU may not be able to travel for awhile......or you may have to go before other boards to show you took your punishment and learned from it and that you were compliant with the boards decision......which can go a long way to showing you are sincere and learned a lesson.

Good luck!

Yes i have and yes I had an attorney represent me. couldn't have done it without her. No..it looks like I won't be trraveling for a long time. It is difficult enough trying to obtain a job when you answer yes on the employment application regarding disciplinary action.

I don't even reside in the state where the "action" occurred. I have another license in the state where I reside. To be honest with you billibob, I've only been a nurse for 2.5 years and it's been rough. I' ve tried obtaining 2 jobs and get excuses for not hiring. It's hard to see me doing anything else but nursing at this stage of my life. I'm 56 (I was a late bloomer- maybe I shouldn't have bloomed!)I am now jobless and I have an $80,000 student loan debt on my shoulder (ouch! my shoulder hurts!). Thinking bankruptcy..thinking where am I gonna get a job topay next month's rent?

Thanks alot for your input:heartbeat

Sorry to hear this has happened to you. You might want to pursue jobs outside of nursing as well as nursing jobs. It is going to be tough. And I would start the bankruptcy procedure now, rather than later. It can take years to get over a plain blacklisting, much less having a black mark on your license. You have a rough road ahead of you and need to keep your personal well being in the fore front. Pare down, cut back. If you are in an apartment, go to a rented room, plan your car trips, etc. Hope you find something soon.

if you completed their required actions keep up with the paperwork and when you go to another state disclose the issue. Does not mean you will not get to work elsewhere. The part about "their rules might be different" could actually work in your favor.

I don't have any experience here, but maybe you should pursue a nursing job away from the bedside, such as public health. Here whatever "liability" you might represent to an employer related to your license should not be an issue.

Sorry that you are going through this, but I have filed bankruptcy before and you can not include student loans in a bankruptcy. Try for a forbearance or a deferrment, they are very easy to get. I think you can do them over the phone now. If not then they will always lower your payment to something affordable for you, just call them.

You just need to find a Federal Facility... They will honor ANY state license. You will still have to disclose whatever's on your license but then again that is public record.

Thanks Keekeedt. I'll tell you, from day 1 I have been swimming upstream in this field i still feel blessed to be a part of. I have had to request deferrments and/or forebearances in the past. Yes, it can be done on the phone, but it costs $150.00 with Sallie Mae. Don't have the money. But you know, it's o.k.; i still believe God has a plan for me and that divine intervention has a way of turning negatives into positives.

Indian Reservations are a good place to look, any state license will work. Also, do you live in a compact state? If you did then there are 22 compact states you can work in with your home state license. Just a few options.
