Good evening Everyone,
I have a question and it seems like everyone on this forum responds much quicker than the school does so please respond if you know the answer to this.
I plan on applying to BMCC’s nursing program in Fall 2021, I’ve completing my prerequisites (Eng 101, Mat 104, Psy100, Chem 121) and have gotten an A or A- in all my classes and accumulated a 3.9 GPA. I just completed Eng 201(which is not a prerequisite) Summer session with a C-. I’ve taken Speech 100 & I’m taking BIO 425 and Psy240 this fall.
Based on what I was told by The nursing dept, they only look at your grades for the 4 prereq’s (Eng 101, Mat 104, Psy100 & BIO425) but I’m wondering if I should retake my ENG 201 class for a better grade.
Please note I’m in the process of reaching out to my English 201 professor to dispute my C- grade.
And I’m considering transferring to other nursing schools since BMCC’s process is lengthy.
Please share your thoughts, Thank you!
What doesn’t make sense about having us wait for well over a month for these results is that they are literally only comparing two scores - our PCI GPA and our HESI tests. I could see it taking this long if we had to submit other items for review like resumes, or professional references, or even an essay. But no - it is just our prerequisites and HESI test scores. Why is this process so drawn out?

I’ll just say this. I had to fight to even apply as YP miscalculated my GPA and then refused to correct it until I cc’d higher ups. She was literally saying she doesn’t do transcript evaluations?? As her excuse. She really is on some type of power trip to be honest because at most schools you just submit your docs and apply. She is like screening who gets through and again she miscalculated me and only because I’m the type of person I am I was able to sit for the exam and actually apply. I wouldn’t be surprise if she’s knows right this moment who is in or not but just drags it out because she can LOL (I’m obviously upset about what happened tho so don’t mind me).
I do not blame you for being upset. I would be too. I agree on the power trip thing to. She is the only one doing what she does there so basically she knows they need her. So that allows her to get away with certain things and also the fact that she chooses who gets in or who doesn't. I am sure she is busy but she's a bit extreme. Like they have to understand where we are coming from too. Of course we wanna know already. She wasn't even able to tell us what were competitive grades from the last admission group. Like the lowest GPA and HESI Score to get in to the program last semester so we can see were we stand a little.
If it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't have know they were giving out test dates because no one reached out to me and when I emailed her she said she never received my application. And I first sent in my checklist in January and she said to send it again after Spring semester started instead of just taking my application then. Which I thought made no sense. but I did that and she still lost my checklist. She doesn't like emails but she is not efficient enough to just wait and see. You have no choice but to stay on top of things and question things when you need to. You have to be your own advocate in the world period. We have all worked hard as hell to get to this point and these errors which might seem small to her or BMCC jeopardize the future we are working for and still have so much more work ahead of us to attain.

Exactly. Hopefully me cc’ing the people I did will shed light. My situation was egregious because it wasn’t even the fact that she made the mistake it was the fact that she dismissed it and was just like “go on your merry way” basically. I was like nope, no way you’re about jack me up ma’am. I just wonder how many other ppl GPA she jacked up and they didn’t realize it? How many other people did she dismiss like it’s not their whole future on the line? Talking about apply to other schools... um no. BMCC is very specific if you’re trying to get in for the evening there is no alternative that will allow you to keep working...
I know how frustrating it is to wait. I too have kids and responsibilities outside of school. And I'm sure those who get accepted would have loads to do to prep before the semester officially starts.
I'm currently vacationing in PA so I don't have my notes etc but the important thing is for us to just start.
Hi! I’m new here and I’m so happy I found y’all! I tested on 5/6 and have been going crazy since June 1st. Knowing that it could be later and that it’s not just me losing it makes me feel a little better LOL. I got an 85 on HESI and have a PCI of 3.9, I’m hoping that’s good enough to get in. Best of luck to everyone and hopefully we hear something soon!

You would think they would understand that we need to plan our entire life around doing this program and most of us work and have children. We not kids. Also we have a orientation that is mandatory and people need to make arrangements not wait till the last minute and then throw it on us. If class starts the end of August and we need uniforms and books and background and medical clearance and the BLS training us finding that information out 6 weeks before is not a lot of time to get all those things done. Those things cost money too. How can we be prepared if we don't Like for the HESI exam. She literally told me 2 weeks before what the date and time was and usually they do the testing later in May. I had to take off work etc. So they need to get it together and be more efficient. Preaching to us about how we need to be to be nurses but not practicing it. It's annoying and I wonder how much of the overall program is unorganized.
Hahahah! Welcome to BMCC. The nightmare hasn't yet begun
Advance congratulations to everyone. She is not very good with timeline and might expect it later on the Summer unfortunately.

Unfortunately, she is not very good with a specific timeline. we found out that we got accepted about 3 weeks before school starts. You have plenty of time to do the BLS, uniform and etcetera. And medical clearance I would alert your employer that you applied to the program it helped me alot with scheduling and stuff.
